Hey everyone, I just recently started collecting Transformers again. I was a purist so to speak awhile ago, but after much consideration (And having to see these toys everyday, since I work at KB) I bought the 3 basic figures of the Energon line... I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised.

First up... Strongarm!

Strongarm:

Vehicle mode: Jeep

The vehicle mode is quite nice, but really doesn't make Strongarm look too inpressive when he is inside the packaging. I think people get turned off by his look in the packaging and assume he's another crap-bot. The jeep mode looks very nice with the "cannon" placed on the top and the 2 other energon pieces can be used as a spare tire that fits on the back. One of the main reasons I love his jeep mode is that it looks alot better than some of the deluxe figures! There is very little kibble and it looks much better out of the packaging. The attention to detail of this basic figure is pretty amazing, and one of the things you first notice is the nicely colored windsheild which is a very nice touch and contrasts well with his color scheme and energon items. One thing I didn't like is how the back wheels are larger than the front, giving the jeep a slanted look. I'd much rather have it leveled out with same sized wheels. So overall, robot mode for Strongarm gets a 4.5/5

Robot mode:

Strongarm's robot mode is where you really start to see the grace of the Energon basics. His transformation is very smooth and the detailing in robot mode is superb. Look closely at his face and you can see he has perfectly painted green eyes, the autobot insignia is placed very well (Left shoulder pad in red) and really looks good with the red energon spark. The color scheme is great for Strongarm in jeep mode, but loosk even better in robot mode. Tan arms, and primary colors of his body are mustard yellow and a very dark blue. Some very nice detailings are that the windsheilds now become his toes and the doors of the car create a Gundamesque type of hip armor. Although he looks great, that doesn't mean squat if you can't pose him. Unfortunately, Strongarm's downfall is his articulation in robot form. You can't get him into much other than a few similiar poses. Also, I wish that there was wrist articulation. However, I've been able to get him into a stable pose which I love! Right knee on the ground, left leg bent (Like you're being knighted), right arm holding his energon weapon to help himself up. Because of the pose and Strongarm's facial expression, it looks like he's struggling to get up, or has just been atacked vicously, but won't give up fighting. I really gotta take a picture for you guys... Articulation is a big thing to me, so it really hurts Strongarm's score overall in robot mode which would other wise be much higher. 4/5

Paint: Very well done paint job here, and I honestly haven't seen ANY splatters or mistakes as of yet. Everything is perfectly painted from the face down to the headlights.

Accessories: Probably the best or near best of the basics Energon weapons. There are 3 parts to his accessories, the cannon, which doubles as a hook/hoist type of thing, and two half circles which can form into a sheild, spare tire, or can be placed on to Strongarm's shoulder pad, which looks very nice. The true beatuy is when you attack the halves to the cannon to form a very nice Energon axe. It looks very nicely detailed and is quite large. Very nice look for this bulky robot. My only gripe is I wish the hook on the cannon was a bit larger so it actaully had some functionality. 4/5

Overall (not an average): Strongarm is a very solid transformer and looks great in robot mode (Once you can pose him the way you want). Considered by some to be the least attractive of the three basic figures, I actually rank him second of the three, although I find all 3 amazing. At a price point of $5.99-$6.99 there really isn't a way to go wrong with this figure. Incredible mold and attention to detail for such a basic figure is very nice. Once you start fooling around with his posing and accessories you like him more and more. Very good figure and the price range is what almost anyone can afford. Overall 4.2/5

At the moment I can only provide generic pictures of Strongarm and will add a few of my own pictures once my camera comes in.

Nice review. I find Strongarm's vehicle mode very unimpressive. I hate the different sized wheels. I'm just not pleased with the vehicle mode.

Now, the robot mode isn't too bad. The feet look a little awkward, but other than that, he looks pretty good. I like the sculpt of the head. The shoulder cannon is cool. I like the overall look of the robot mode.

Second up... Skyblast!

Skyblast:

Vehicle mode: Fighter jet

I'm very happy with the mold and look of the vehicle mode. With the energon weapons attached it looks that much better! Any Coboy Bebop fans will instantly find some similarities with the "Swordfish" from the Coboy Bebop series. The elongated gun in the front is a very nice look. Also, the attention to detail with the cockpit was a nice touch too. Instead of just painting it red, Hasbro used clear plastic, near the same plastic color as the energon accessories The "grabber claws" are a nice treat, but don't serve too much of a purpose. Now, with the good comes the bad... The paint applications on Skyblast are the worst out of the basic figures. The red trim is very fuzzy near the sides and the front many times has splatters of white where its suppose to be black. Although, I say its the worst of the three basic figures, it isn't incredibly bad and is still above average paint job. Another gripe is the energon accessories that are suppose to attach to the wing don't stay all that well. This probably varies on every Skyblast, but it is a bit annoying and I have heard others complain about it. 4.0/5 (Only because i'm a picky bastitch about paint jobs)

Robot mode:

Nothing too fancy in robot mode. I like the contrast of red and white with the hints of gold on Skyblast and in my opinion he has one of the best color schemes in he Energon line thus far. The head sculpt looks great and the paint applications on his face/head are great. The color scheme looks great in robot and vehicle mode and the position of the jet's nose on the back of his head gives him an almost gundamesque look. Very sturdy, and semi-poseable. The real problem with Skyblast is the lack of knee joints, so he won't be able to bend his leg back or forward, but will be able to bend it side to side. Without being able to pose him besides standing up and other odd postures it really takes away from the fun of robot mode. 3.8/5

Paint: Like I said earlier... It's not a horrendous job, but it does pale in comparions with the other energon figures. Mainly the side skirts of the vehicle mode, and small splatters at the front. Nothing to go crazy over. Although, on a lighter note, some of the parts, like the face/head are superbly painted. Seems someone at the factory got lazy midway through. Overall, still above average.

Accessories: Awesome accessories! Everytyhing can be combined to make a huge spear/lance that is taller than Skyblast! Serisouly, the darker red used (Darker than Strongarm's accessories) is nice eye candy. If you decide to place the wing attachments on in robot mode, Skyblast gets a nice little laser to hold, and when I say little, I mean big ^_^. 4.3/5

Overall score (Not an average): Robot mode is very solid and stable, but those who are looking for medium poseability will be dissapointed. Skyblast excels in his vehicle mode which looks VERY cool. The grabber claws could be used to sweep up those minicons or something of the sort :). Overall, I love Skyblast's paint scheme, I love his sculpt and accessories, but the lack poseability, knee joints, and the under par paint application leave me wanting more. This could have been a grade AAA figure, but little things like this, us Transformer lovers will always notice. Still an awesome figure though, and if you have the skills, touch up his paint and it'll look FANTASTIC. Price is $5.99-$6.99 so he's a steal. 4/5

Once again, I apologize for the generic photos, and will have custom photos of ALL the TFs i'm reviewing soon.

Nice review! I think Skyblast is nifty, but the lack of articulation in robot mode turns me off.

He looks very much like the G1 cartoon Skyfire, both in robot and vehicle mode. I wonder if that's intentional.

With Energon, many references are intentional, and from several sources, from the "Godzilla" Cruellock to Battle Ravage's "Megatron" cannon. Inferno's robot mode is very much like G1's Ironhide (the show, not the hideous toy :woot: ), Snowcat's a duplicate of the GI Joe vehicle, Prowl bears a striking resemblance to G1 Mirage... wait until you see Shockblast and Omega Supreme! :D

Yeah, I actually like the direction in which Energon is going. I dig the "homages" to the old characters, like Rodimus, Arcee, Downshift/Wheeljack... and especially Shockblast! I just hope the rest of the robot looks as cool as his torso!

Shockwave has potential. I like his head and torso sculpt. Of course, the paint scheme is wack. Lime green and purple. Ugggh.

Last but certainly not least... BATTLE RAVAGE!

Battle Ravage:

Beast mode: Jaguar

Let me just get this out in the open now. This is my FAVORITE figure out of the 3 basic Energon figures, not counting the energon saber, although he'd be top pick even if the nergon saber was part of the ranking .

Beast Mode:

In this mode Battle Ravage looks very much like, well, G1 Ravage. It's truely an incredible homage to the G1 Ravage and looks spectacular. The mold in beast mode is great except for one minor gripe I have with Battle Ravage in this mode... His head looks a bit too wolfish for my taste. Still looks great, but a slightly more slender head would have been ideal in my opinion. He has yellow eyes with silver paint on the top of his head. The mold for the claws/paws looks very nice, giving Battle Ravage an animal look, but not so much it tears away from the fact that he's all machine. The light yellow/green weapons look very nice on top of Battle Ravage and in this mode however you pose him he looks like he's ready to pounce. His poseability is also great in this mode and you can pretty much get him into any cat like post you wish. All the joints feel very tight, maybe a bit too tight on some of the leg joints, but it's better than being loose. Battle Ravage also has a tail which has a spiked ball at the end, and from what I can tell can be removed and used as another weapon in Robot mode. I can really find no fault in this mode and my gripes are only things that would turn this basic into an Ultra or deluxe figure. It'd be nice is the tail was articulated, but that's asking a bit much for an already fantastic basic figure. 4.9/5 (Only because the fact his head looks a wee bit too wolfish.)

Robot mode:

Now I'm not too acustomed to seeing Ravage turn into anything but a Jaguar or a cassette tape, so I was a bit skeptical about his robot mode. Boy was I wrong. His Robot mode is very nicely done and well handled by Hasbro. although, I prefer his beast mode, you can't deny the coolness of his robot mode. In robot mode Battle Ravage has a very distinct face sculpt. If you look closely, its nothing that resembles your everyday transformer. He actually retains a sort of beast look even in robot mode which I thought was a great decision. His head sculpt is very nicely done and the teeth look great showing, looks very fierce. The claws fold back to reveal the arms and is pretty standard. He stands up VERY well despite what you may think. In this mode, Battle Ravage is rivaled by few of the other transformers in poseability, that includes the deluxe figures, mega, so on and so forth. Very nicely done conversion by Hasbro and I was really impressed with the figure. Very stable, awesome look and design. 4.9/10

Paint:

Best paint job BY FAR. I can find no real blemishes or any mistakes to complain about. Even the tiny cat like eyes are painted to perfection. I'm serious, I'm a real hardass about paint jobs, but I can't find a fault here... 5/5

Accessories:

This is just awesome, not only does Hasbro deliver concerning the look and feel of Battle Ravage, but they also give him great accessories! First off is the Energon spark all the Basic figures have and 2 guns/cannons, all being a lime green, maybe a bit lighter than lime green. One gun ahs the ability to shoot out a purple missle while the other just looks nice... But what's this? That second gun sure looks familiar... Hmmm... That's right folks, it's a direct homage to G1 Megatron's cannon! Looks totally sweet and the fact Hasbro thought of doing that was just genius. The two guns/cannons can be combined to form what resembles a sort of sniper rifle and looks amazing. Very good accessories and the homage is greatly appreciated. 4.8/5

Overall score (Not an average): Great figure, great homages, great everything (including the price tag). The figure is awesome, there's not much more I can say. I highly recommend the figure to anyone who is interested or just starting out collecting the Energon line and I have to say he is one of my favorites out of ALL the Energon TFs. It's very rarely I praise a figure so vigorously without finding many things to complain about, but the Energon line is shaping up very nicely and only a few of the figures have dissapointed me. Overall, this figure is a 4.9/5 in my book. The only thing holding it back is the wolfish head and my desire for the tail to be articulated.

I'll be reviewing...

Scorponok
Star Scream
Hot Shot
Inferno
RiD Landfill (Wal-mart exclusive) in the days to come.

I've always felt that the Terrorcons and Decepticons had the edge in terms of excellent design in Energon. Glad to see I'm not alone. :woot: As I only have Starscream, I've got to get these guys sometime; it's just not easy making time to get to Meijer or Wal-Mart...

I'm having the most difficult time trying to get the wave 2 figures. Seems everyone has found them, but California hasn't seen any, well none in my area anyway.

And I agree, the Decepticons/Terrorcons defiantely have the edge in design. They look totally badass. Which reminds me, I think I'll do the review of Star scream next .
