Just got a large lot of these from jkaris and I really love how varied and numerous the assortment is. (especially for a US released gumball toy series). It's kind of difficult to make out many details from that checklist photo but once you get these little guys in your hands they're really fun. I think the fact that they have no premise at all makes them even more enjoyable
After looking them over it seems to me that they can be grouped into a few categories based on the style of the sculpts. I'd like to post some reviews of the individual sculpts that really stand out to me eventually so I won't bother with the names of the figures yet, but for now here are some loose categories that I've noticed. I'd be interested to hear others' opinions as well!
- The first group consists of Pokemon-esque monsters and creatures. Some stand upright and appear more or less anthropomorphic, while the rest are significantly more 'beast-like'. I noticed that almost all of my figures of the latter description are in the amber color while the upright came in a variety of colors..
- The next group consists of oddity/oddball creatures, many with goofy/happy faces and/or floppy arms. Most of the 'chunky' sculpts redjar mentions are in this category, including one of my favorites: an octopus-looking alien dude with a long floppy tendril extending over his head.
- A third group contains only a few sculpts, but they're some of my favorites, Strange geometric forms and shapes, smooth surface. Are they spaceships? Abstract robots? Extra-dimensional aliens? No idea, but I love these guys.
- Another group is made up of what appears to be robots or maybe even pieces of equipment (one really looks like a jetpack to me)
- Finally, there is a group that I've been endearingly referring to as the 'Mayan Space Lords'. Most of these guys appear to be some sort of alien/cyborg, but all of the figures have a facial design that evokes themes from Mayan or Incan sculptures. Also, I'm not sure if this is a coincidence or not, but similar to the amber beast sculpts I mentioned earlier all of the sculpts that I got matching the Mayan description were blue, and only two of the blue figures I got (out of over 90) fit into other categories.
Finally, I was wondering if anyone else had variant figures that were slightly larger? I have an amber-colored Dragoon (if I've identified him from the checklist correctly) that appears to be the normal size, but I also have a green one that is noticeably larger (and incidentally is also still connected at the mouth to part of his molding 'tree'.
Also, does anyone else have figures that aren't on the checklist? Admittedly I've only looked it over once or twice but I'm pretty sure I have at least one that isn't pictured.
