Is there anything I can apply to the BB/LB plastic to make it more pliable? Maybe even some chemical bath--turpentine? acetone? vinegar?--that will soften it enough for sculpting? Carving, whittling...trying whatever comes to mind. Any chemists out there?

I don't think acetone would be a very good idea... it eats through stuff like styrofoam very easily... so I would imagine that it would do the same for the plastic...

If you are trying to cut it...try using a hair dryer to heat it up ultra hot!!! It will cut like butter!

you can cure sculpey w/ a hair dryer but it better be a damn good one or you'll be there for ever, your better off boiling the fig in a bowl of water in the microwave for a few minutes.

=)
