I've been following the development of the Occulus Rift for quite a while now but I hadn't seen it mentioned here yet. I'm curious what you all think about it? Did you ever try any of the "virtual reality" setups they were trying so hard to push back in the early 90's (think "Lawnmower Man" quality)? There used to be one of those arcades at Union Station in St Louis and I tried it once when I was a youngster. Needless to say it was less immersive than a game of Quake so I wasn't very impressed. All I remember was being assaulted by a polygon that kind of resembled a pink pterodactyl.
Since Facebook shelled out $2B for the property recently they obviously have intent to do something with it, and since Sony is currently developing one of their own VR sets for the PS4, they're apparently going to be competing pretty fiercely.
As a side note, they're going to need to get this part figured out before they can mass-market the thing.
(nothing happens until about 1:20 in, so I recommend skipping ahead )
