Did you create a universe for the little guys?

Back in my childhood the BBs had no names or backup story or anything really so I was left to create a universe for myself. I started with the annual (the only source of info at the time) which implied that the beasts lived on a completely natural world in spite of their obvious access to advanced technology (that cyber-armour has to come from somewhere) and that all they did was roam around the countryside beating each other up purely for the fun of it.

I decided they were a race of genetically engineered warriors who had been isolated on an island continent (simply named 'Land') by their creators ('the Unyielding Ones' - a humanoid race whose exact appearance I've never fully decided upon). Their sole purpose was to fight each other as a source of entertainment for their masters who could observe them from impregnable domiciles around the island (it seems I invented 'reality TV' before I ever became aware of the concept! B) ) Certain beasts were favourites (called 'Rhanukh') of the Unyielding Ones and had been 'upgraded' with cybernetic armour which kept regenerating the beast's body making him immortal but also stripping his memories and personality (and teleporting him to another part of Land) either every 200 years or if he was killed in combat, to prevent him developing to a stage where he might question his reason for being and rise up against his creators. Unmodified beasts would naturally die off before ever reaching this state.

Things went on like this for long ages until by freak accident the 'upgraded' White Lion's latest personality found itself completely sentient rather than dominated by the programmed instinctive behaviour of the rest of his kind. With his newfound curiosity he soon uncovered the truth about life on Land. Horrified at what he and his people were being used for he went on a crusade, becoming a messiah amongst the beasts and Rhanukh, and eventually forced the Unyielding Ones from the island. To prevent the Rhanukh and the regular beasts from spreading to the rest of the world, the Unyielding Ones trapped the island by using a piece of powerful technology known simply as 'The Device', shattering the known universe into multiple dimensions with their world at the hub - part of the planet in each dimension - before leaving their world altogether in search of pastures new (they would eventually encounter the Cybertron (one of several - I had multiple TF stories running in my head too) of their particular dimension but that's another story for another time).

Back on Land (now sat in the midst of a vast ocean with no neighbours), White Leo led the other Rhanukh and Beasts into an age of peace and prosperity, utilising leftover Unyielding One technology, and established a great Beast civilisation that spread across all of the continent. But things were never going to last...

As time passed more and more of the Rhanukh passed the 200 year mark and, in spite of Beast scientists best efforts to understand the workings of the armour, had their liberated personalities erased and would reappear, savage and warlike as before, in the wild parts of Land. Eventually even White Leo succumbed to this fate and disappeared. Without the wise and powerful Rhanukh leading them, the natural beasts reverted to their genetic programming and fought amongst each other for no better reason than "they had to" and the great civilisation that had flowered so briefly collapsed, it's buildings and monuments consumed by nature as the millenia passed and the decendants of it's citizens roamed wild, engaging in combat whenever they met (this been the world that the annual portrayed - and "where I came in" as far as I was concrened).

The story has continued in my mind ever since then (I like to keep my imagination active :D ) - if I haven't bored everyone to sleep by now I'll happily dredge through my memory for the events that followed and add them to this thread...

Very nice ideas. It is always fun to create your wold so that there are no limitations. It was good in some aspects that Battle Beasts did not have a cartoon or comic book (well, besides that 4 issue series that I didn't even know about as a kid) to limit my imagination when playing with the toys. When the Transformer movie came out I was so upset by the deaths in that movie that I couldn't even play with the figures I had of the characters that died or changed in that movie. One of my favorite things to do with my Gi Joes was reinact the latest Gi Joe comic that came out. But with BBs there were no such ideas to draw from so I came up with some wild stuff. The one thing that really pops out is that what ever symbol the character had when I drew it from the pack was what team they were on. The 3 teams would always meet at a seperate location and plan their next attack. My woods were severely outnumbered. I had a water Sawtooth Shark and a fire Carp so I always believed my Carp was a traitor to the water team. The fire team were the "good guys" because of my fire Pirate Lion. Wood would join forces with fire to take down water a lot of the time.

I was rummaging through an old sketch book and chanced across my design for the written language of the beasts on Land (yep - my imaginary universe got pretty detailed over time) - here's the Rhanukhani Alphabet for anyone who's interested...

It looks like you used Runes as a reference for your language. I want to say Angelo-Saxon? Pretty sweet!

As a guy that loves a good back story i have to say this kept my attention. It could use some "fleshing out" but the skeleton story is interesting (but isnt that the case with BB's in general lol?).

Once i get my hands on a BB or 2 and begin work ill start on some sort of fiction myself. There are so many directions that the story could go in especially considering Beast are involved. Most ancient mythology involved beast/man hybrids at some point or another......

My only major concern is whether one maintains the Transformer connection. Would it blasphemy to ignore the connection ?

Um I never imagined anything even close to that but I can say that at
aprox3-4yrs
I played with them in the tub diving the into the water and shizznit them killing one another and then at 4-2nd grade was tradign them with other kids in school and building worlds out of lincon logs for them
after third grade I would say they were an item i played with mabey once a month they stayed in the same drawer as my lincoln logs this went on until I was in 4th grade when my house burned down from a toaster oven the day of my birthday party all my toys where sheets of plastic or burned I had lego priates and castles all over my dresser and they were now one solid sheet of plastic my fish tank was cracked very little water and roasted fish. well you get the idea the only thing left in my room were battle beasts. The only toy strong enough to make it throught he fire. I have them and will have them untill the day I die they are dirty as hell but god damnit I love my battle beasts . In high school I printed off prictures of battle beasts and asked kids if They rembered and had any of the beasts. unfortunatly only one kid had them I traded some shizznit to him for them and I got some at a vintage toy store. but untill I came to this site I never really bought any of them now I have like 1000 aprox. Battle beasts will be a part of my life forever. ps. I am drunk and herbed out right now ahhhhhhhhh.

It's had 15 years of fleshing out - if I wrote everything I doubt anyone would bother to wade through it  I expect I'll document more of the events that have occured over the years (including how the TFs fit in to all this) in this thread at some point - keep an eye out! :D

That is a great story, fourth heir! I'm sure a lot of people can remember their own stories, whether involving just BBs or other toylines as well. My own ideas are very similar to yours, including powerful, mysterious creators of the beasts.

Pretty intense imagination fourth heir especially for a kid back then. I just remember having nicknames for acouple of beasts back then like for the Gorilla I called him Kong and for some reason I named the Carp Sharky both of which I have passed down to my nephew to use for his play.

Awesome story beggining Foyrth Heir I just wish you would use that imagination toward our 3rd Gen Kinnikuman project. It kept my attention even though I never got into BB's as a kid.

Ehm, Jaguar, you do realize you just bumped a one year old thread? And it's starting to get annoying when you try to make everyone go to 3rd gen ;)
New characters are closed right now anyways, there is no need for new members at the moment. (Cept for maybe artists or something.)

Anyways, this story seems pretty good, but I ain't intressted in Battle beasts =/
