The word comes up quite a bit on here.
I'm guessing they are another company that copied Matchbox mimps or a bootleg version but I'm not too sure.

I've noticed flashing on some of the foreign ones. Maybe sonrics or Italian ones which has put me off purchasing them. Is this normal for these?

Yes. They are lower quality molds than the Matchbox figures.

I am from Mexico and if the word Sonrics is a brand where sweets were sold and if the figures are of lower quality than the original Matchbox, because the molds are completely different, I collect them because other colors that do not have the matchbox came out and there were until propaganda of comics, cards, acetates and buttons referred to pocket monsters, that makes the sonrics have their charm also came a cardboard box with sweets and there was the prize that was the figurine of a monster, what good times! !!

Theres a fine line between sanity & insanity, some of us on here may be leaning towards the latter ;-)
