Ok, time to review a couple more figures that I picked up at Wizard World Chicago. This time we are going to check out one of my favorite types of toys. The diecast metal Japanese robot! Yup, ever since I was a kid and fell in love with the diecast metal Shogun Warriors I have always been a sucker for this type of figure. Here we are going to actually check out two figures, but they are the same type of figure so seperate reviews seemed silly. These two figures are from the Hero Collection: Getter Dragon and Getter One. You can see some more pics of Getter Dragon here and here. You can check out a couple more pics of Getter One here, here and here. Ok, enough pics! On to the review!
Looks: 4.5 out of 5
These two robots are very simple in desing compared to the mecha that we are currently used to seeing in anime and toys. However, the simplicity and clean lines are exactly what I find attractive in these figures. Excellent use of various bright colors including light blue, green and bright yellow. Definately color schemes you don't see to often nowadays. These robot warriors look old school and bring back good memories of when I was a little kid.
Articulation 3.5 out of 5
These figures have articulation at the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, thighs, knees and ankles. Just enough articulation to put them in cool poses. Even though I am an articulation freak, I probably wouldn't want much more articulation with these types of figures.
Accessories 2 out of 5
Not much in the way of accessories. Getter Dragon comes with two battle axes while Getter One comes with one battle axe. That is it. Once cool thing about the battle axes is that to slip them into Getter's hands you take off the top of the axe, slide it into the hand and then put the top back on. It gives it a cooler more realistic look that the figure actually opened its closed hand to grasp the battle axe.
Value 2.5 out of 5
Once again, the figure I am reviewing takes a hit in this category. I got these figures at the con for $20 a piece. However, I have seen them regularly priced anywhere between $28-35. So they aren't cheap, but in their defense these aren't just some wimpy plastic figures. They are diecast metal!
Coolness 5 out of 5
Like I said, I loved Shogun Warriors as a kid so any old school Japanese robot warriors are very cool in my eyes. I really dig these figures and think they are a great contrast with the typical modern mecha figures on the market today. Plus, their hands pop off! Very cool.
Overall 3.5 out of 5
I absolutely love these figures. Their value and lack of accessories really bring down what are otherwise very high scores. I definately recommend these "Shogun Warriors" to anyone.

They are both diecast metal figures.I like the Getter Dragon- it's a pity about their prices, though. What are they made of?
