Would you believe that I've never had a Snake eyes figure until today? I plan to pick up the one with the motorcycle soon to remedy this, but as of right now technically my first Snake-eyes is the one in this set. I bought this comic pack so I can use a certain figure to make a custom joe with, but I decided to review it anyway.

The GI joe comic packs are a nod to the collectors, the whole collectors, and nothing but the collectors. They include figures based on specific comic issue s- no more, no less. Unfortunately, #2 is the only pack to include a comic-only figure - somebody who hasn't gotten a toy before today. Each pack comes with three figures (generally kitbashed sculpts) and the corresponding comic issue.

G.I. Joe #2 is memorable for introducing one of the most famous comic-only characters: the eskimo tracker named Kwinn. The fiesty Inuit with the weasel skulls was a really deep character considering that he never got a toy and died pretty early in the cokmic's run. In fact, he's so memorable that the new figure Ghost Bear is supposedly his son. Kwinn was a mercenary who originally worked for Cobra before realizing how honorable Snake-Eyes is. he was later betrayed by the villainous dr. Venom (Also comic-only), and in the end, the two killed each other - Kwinn was going to spare venom's life, but Venom shot the poor guy in the back. However, Kwinn had been holding a grenade at the time, and "accidentally" pulled the pin while he fell. There really isn't much left of either warrior to write home about. Ouch.

Sculpt:

Scarlett: Seeing as how Scarlett's one and only appearance in this issue is in a martial arts tournament, they stuck the classic Scarlett head on a painted-white Jinx body. The end result looks lopsided - Scarlett's head is too small for her body, you see. She looks like a pajama-wearing pinhead. And even besides this, the figure has a very limited use. You're looking at a martial arts tournament, or a slumber party. Blech. I actually bought this pack so I could use her torso in a custom figure - I'll post it when I'm done. So... Scarlett is going to be reduced to spare parts very soon. it's okay, I'll pick up a better version of the character someday.

Snake-Eyes: My first Snake-Eyes is kind of a downer. they tried to imitate his "Arctic Gear" look, but since Hasbro wanted to only use parts from pre-existinc figures, the only thing tha tthey got right were the colors. His parka did not look like a double-breasted shirt. Need I say more? I'm probably going to use this figure as some sort of random Cobra spy, and pick up a better Snake-eyes elsewhere. Oh, yeah, and his oversized head makes him resemble a bobblehead.

Tracker Kwinn: And now we've reached the one high point os this set. While Kwinn's body is entirely re-used, his head is a new sculpt. The body actually fits his appearance *perfectly,* although his jaw needs to be a tiny bit squarer - Kwinn was an ogre. Still, the figure has a really good likeness, and I like what they did with the hair. I do complain, however, about the fact that his fur collar is molded onto his head. most of kwinn's appearances were in a warmer climate, and now it's virtually impossible to customize one like that. And finally, Kwinn is supposed to be 6'10", but the parts for his figure were made when everybody was the same height. So... the big hulking eskimo is a little shorter than Scarlett. Still, despite these flaws, I really like the figure. ut's a great nod to the old comic fans.

Paint Job:

Scarlett: White gi, red hair, flesh-toned skin. it's simple, ant not messed up.

Snake-Eyes: Black head and shirt, yellow shoulderpads, green pants, yellow shoes, tan gloves. It makes him look goofy.

Tracker Kwinn: he's got a reddish shirt and khaki pants, which is how he's supposed to look. Again, Kwinn is the high point of this set. The only high point.

Articulation:

Normal joe articulation for all three.

Accessories:

The set comes with one machine gun w/tripod, one crossbow, a sniper rifle, an uzi, a regular rifle, a submachine gun, a backpack, a wolf, and Kwinn's weasel skull necklace. They're great accessories, even though the Necklace is easy to lose. But hey, you can give it to anyone! RODENT CORPSES!!!!!
The set also comes with GI Joe #2, which is a fun issue, although it does leave us hanging - it's meant for the old comic fans.

Pricing: The set costs $9.99, which would be great if the figures were decent. As it stands, you're paying $10 for Kwinn, a comic, some good accessories, and two strange mutant Joes.

GOtGM (1-10): 3. Nothing bad here, at all.

Overall (1-5): 2.5. If not for Kwinn, the accessory variety, and the comic, this pack would be one to AVOID.
