FFII (Japan VI) was an SNES title, I believe FFIV was the last title relased for Famicom in Japan but didn't make it to the US. Here's the games I'm holding onto for now. Some of them aren't even that great of games but I have memories playing them (like Clash at Demon Head).

NES

  • Basewars
  • Black Bass
  • Clash at Demon Head
  • Crystalis
  • Dragon Warrior
  • Excitebike
  • Jaws
  • Legend of Zelda
  • Legend of Zelda 2: Link to the Past
  • Metroid
  • Mike Tyson's Punch-Out
  • Ninja Gaiden
  • Super Mario Brothers
  • Super Mario Brothers 2
  • Super Mario Brothers 3
  • TMNT
  • T&C Surf Design

SNES

  • Chrono Trigger
  • Final Fantasy III
  • NBA Jam
  • Ranma 1/2: Hard Battle
  • Secret of Mana
  • Starfox
  • Street Fighter II
  • Super Mario Kart
  • Super Mario World
  • Tecmo Super Bowl

I have to ask, as a Ranma fan, how is that game? I assume it is a 2d fighter but still lol

I know there is some classics on snes and nes that I loved so much that I downloaded illegal versions. Especially for BT, Beavis and Butthead, all the Megamans, all FFs and a few others. I do want to try the Exo Squad game for Genesis but I am to lazy to beat Vectaman let alone that lol

The game actually isn't bad, it's basically a Street FIghter 2 clone with anime character graphics. In fact, if I remember correctly I randomly picked out this game as an exchange for a SF2 Turbo I received as a duplicate birthday gift. It's also responsible for my introduction to anime when I was 11. I saw the first Ranma 1/2 movie VHS on the rental shelves in a Hastings a few months after getting the game and decided to rent it to see if I could figure out what the hell was going on.

I've loved it ever since, though admittedly I've not watched past the fourth season...it kind of starts to fall apart there plot-wise and the episodes start following even more abstract themes like "Martial Arts Ping Pong!" Also didn't help that some of the English voice actors changed that season.

It's kind of funny because all other anime I prefer to watch in Japanese with subtitles, but because I grew up watching Ranma it's the only one that I like more in English. Sarah Strange as boy-type Ranma is just too perfect!

Another interesting fact I learned while travelling in Costa Rica: Ranma 1/2 was broadcast in Spanish and became a relatively popular cartoon throughout Central America in the mid 90's. They kept calling it "Ranma One Five" for some reason; I think because in some versions of the old logo the "2" in 1/2" looks a little like a five

Hahahaha yeah I am that way with the Digimon, Escaflowne, Cowboy Bebop, Monster Rancher, and Ghost in the Shell voice actor teams. I loved all those shows growing up and refuse to watch them in their native language. I actually was forced to read the entire manga series by an ex. Great experience but I love Love Hina more.

I love how Central America handled certain animes. Especially when you see their religious demographics and realize Utena was extremely popular none-the-less lol

Also, if you want a great anime, watch Minami-Ke :) got into that one recently and I love it

Ah wow Escaflowne, I'd completely forgotten about that one. The selection of anime was pretty limited back in the 90's, before Pokemon and the like blew the lid off and helped make it mainstream. Combined with the parental impression that "it's just a cartoon", I ended up watching series at that time like Battle Angel Alita, Guyver, and Urotsukidoji  when I was definitely not old enough to be watching them haha.

I'll have to check that one out though. I'm always looking for new anime to watch, but I'm usually disappointed with what turns up when I try to find something new. Ghibli releases are the only ones that consistently impress me. Not that I'm saying anything new here, but Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away are true works of art.

Bach-

You are correct. It was a surf/ clothing line... All sorts of folks did NES games back in the day. I believe the Dominos Snoid had a game... The 7up Dot... Etc

TanRnet-

I LOVED Rygar... I can't believe I never got around to owning it. I used to rent the hell out of it though. I recent sold my old Atari Lynx collection, and I had a copy of Rygar for that system. I played it before I sold it and man... That music was great!

Ahhhhhh Gunm lol I have a Gunm manga / Battle Alita collection. Love that comic. Yukito Kishiro is simply amazing. He is my second favorite manga-ka besides Masamune Shirow. I dived into the late 80s / early 90s animes with Sol Bianca, Tank Police and a few others and those comics were amazing.

I can name a few recent animes that impressed me: Karas (first one only), Minami-Ke, Welcome to the N.H.K., Death Note, Ouran Highschool, and a few others. Sadly I was in charge of an anime club for four years and luckily a friend of mine is a huge japanese nut lol

I thought I was the only one to own an Atari Lynx. Glad someone joined me on that venture.
I had only two games for that, California Games & Rygar. I still played both a ton during the systems short run. I believe the Rygar lynx version was based on the arcade game. Maybe that's why I liked the NES one so much with the adventure of it and bosses. Music on any version is still really good.

TanRNet - I actually missed the whole buying a Lynx when it was still being made and I was a kid thing. Many moons ago when I was pursuing a career in the entertainment industry I was doing a lot of stand-in work so I was on set all the time. Usually that meant sitting around reading, talking, trying to find ways to occupy yourself (this was before the rise of the entertainment hub of the smart phone lol)... Any how at that time the Gameboy I had ( I think it was the GB Advanced) had a terrible screen. Yes it was I color, but it wasn't back lit... So half the time when I was on set I couldn't see what I was doing.

I don't remember how or why - but it dawned on my that the old Atari Lynxes had backlit color screens so you could play in the dark! So I got onto Ebay and I just started buying up tons of old Atari Lynx lots... I had a couple of systems and a shitload of games really inexspensive too. Some of the games were soooooo bad... But Rygar was GREAT! It sucked that those games didn't have a save feature because they were basically on cards and not cartridge based (so no batteries In them ala Zelda...).

10 years later I sold them all for a tidy profit because they turned into collectables or something. The irony of all this is that like 6 months after I bought all the old Atari Lynx stuff... Nintendo came out with the Nintendo Advance SP (or something like that) which ended up being the first back lit gameboy screen... And I could have just gotten that instead.

Good times!

Great story plasticfiend. I would have loved to snag a huge lot of games for the Lynx. I probably could dig up my old one at my parents house somewhere.

This could have solved your gameboy problems. I think I even had one that drained batteries like crazy and didn't work really that great.

OH MAN ERIC - that's awesome... Where do you find that lol?

TanRnet - yeah I think I tried one of the over head lamp things but it kinda sucked. I don't think it was an officially nintendo brand though... Maybe Tiger Electronics or something like that. Hey if I had known about LRG back when I was selling the Lynx stuff... I'm sure you would have gotten some Atari treats!

Battletoads would have been much better for me without the bikes. I hated those stages passionately.
