They look very similar. Is there relation between the two in lore? I was hoping fly sailor was an evolved state of Killer Carp but from what I read the Sailor is a flying fish... But maybe a carp is too... I dunno.
Thanks :)

They are not directly related and as you stated yourself they are both representing another animal but when it comes to the Laser Beasts its not uncommon that some of the animals chosen are directly or closely related to animals used in the Battle Beasts line like the Rhino, Mouse, Owl, Chameleon, Bat, Gator. These are examples of more direct references, probably not done by accident as you can imagine, but there´s also animals who´re more in the same category animals rather than representing exactly the same figure like some of the Monkeys, Big Cats, Fish, Birds. So yes there´re definitely relations between Beasts from the BB line and the LB but as far as I know there´s not some kind of story or whatever that explains the LB are evolutions of the BB or something like that. And if you look into the original Japanese names and the animals they represent you´ll most often find out the Japanese were very good at their knowledge of animals and giving the Beasts in most cases a slightly different name and look in such a way that the animal might belong to the same species but it´s not the same animal. In case of the Killer Carp (a Carp) and Fly Sailor (a Flying Fish (would have to look up the exact animal name they´d given to this Beast)) there migh be a similar look but they´re not related to each other in a way you´re hoping, srry.

A carp is a bottom feeder.  :)  Koi and goldfish are carp that are selectively bred for their color.  Naturally occurring carp are a plain old whitish, grayish green.

Also the carp is a freshwater fish and the flying fish are saltwater.  Hope this helps you re-imagine the characters in completely different environments.

Worth mentioning that in Japanese it's just Killer Fish. I'm not sure if he was ever actually defined as a specific type of fish until imported by Hasbro, where of course none of the characters really retained much of a back story anymore. I always assumed they went with Carp because of their proclivity for alliteration in the beast names.

As a side note, Fly Sailor is one of the coolest LBs imo ;)

What about the illusive trouser trout?

Big carp fan here, as well.   Not a huge fan of the hot pink armor, but the sculpt is a knockout.

As a kid I always thought Killer Carp was a piranha, because he has teeth, and carp have a sucker mouth.

Same. Because of the teeth. And a piranha is a popular motif with toys and cartoons anyway.

That's a cool idea.  It would be neat if they all somehow evolved into laser beasts.

This is a brief summary, but the official story goes that the Laser Beasts were driven underground by a catastrophic event a long time before the series takes place (thousands of years?). When they emerged and found the Beastformers living on their planet, they got royally pissed and decided to take the planet back for themselves.
