So I recently found out about a set of capsule toys released last year called Beastie Buddies that I don't recall seeing discussed here. Not sure if they're still showing up in machines, but I was able to order them in bulk online.

They're made of the same kind of squishy rubber as Trash Pack. 5 different characters, including an ogre, a unicorn, a samurai, a snail, and my personal favorite...an Audrey II-esque flytrap! Could not resist hunting them down because of that one alone.

I really like the designs, which were done by James Koenig. Very fun with lots of personality.

Each figure is about 3/4-inch tall and is available in 5 colors: brown, pink, yellow, aqua, and tan. As far as paint jobs, there are 2 different versions of each character in each color: one with several features painted and one with only the eyes painted (or in the case of Flora, the teeth). The ones with very little paint tend to look better because most of the paint jobs on these are slop-city! I picked out the best examples for these photos--most look sloppier.

Not sure who else would dig these, but if there's interest I could look at sorting out extras for sale.

Shame that they are squishy. Great designs!

Is the squish rubber considerably cheaper or less expensive to make?  Why do toy companies go this route?

I can't understand it either… I'd be all over some of these lines (e.g. Fungus Amungus) if they were PVC.

I would have definitely preferred a firmer material, but the material is not as bad as something like Fungus Amungus. It's not sticky, and is a little bit firmer than those. Think Trash Pack material.

Man, I also have a serious dislike of the squishy materials.

Some of these look really cool, but if my kid doesn't yell "OWW!" when I throw it at him, I don't want it.

Squishy figs make for incredible micro lint rollers. They're missing out by not using that material and making some of these designs for the roller.

I read somewhere awhile back that one of the toyline was that rubber so it didn't hurt to step on and would be more durable for play.

Can confirm the pain bit.

I can instantly tell when my little buggers have left a shopkins on the floor, VS a trash pack/grossery gang.
