I can say pretty firmly that the NES will forever be recognized as one of the greatest consoles ever. Nintendo's other consoles have always had their eccentricities which turn people away for one reason or another, but many of the Nintendo exclusives are just so good. Zelda, Kirby, River City Ransom, Super Mario Bros, Donkey Kong, Metroid, etc. I remember having SNES vs Genesis arguments with my friends in school back in the day, an the argument for Genesis was always based on increased violence and things that moved too fast to see on screen, and almost never on how fun the games were, because generally nintendo takes the cake there. (some allowance might be made for the Sonic games, as I know they have a very large fan base, however any character who walks up a hill as slow as he does, and flies backwards if he jumps is a sorry character indeed in my opinion.)
Plus, Nintendo is just so darn innovative. I know people flock to 360 (which I do have as well) and PS3 because they have great graphics. Better graphics is not an innovation. It's an expected progression, and one that in my opinion becomes less impressive every generation. Nintendo brought us the D-pad, gun peripherals, console to console gameplay, the "mat" controller, trigger buttons, motion control, microphones, portable gaming, and several other gaming concepts we use all the time now without thinking about it. And yes, sometimes these great innovations come alongside some pretty lousy ideas which fail, like power glove, virtual boy, ROB the robot, The SNES mouse, e-cards, the sticker printer, etc. However, try imagining some of Playstation's innovations that have failed. Or Xbox's. It's hard because they don't really make any, and the few third party ones are usually just new controllers with differently placed buttons like the Guitar Hero guitars. I guess you could thank Playstation for bringing about the "innovation" of mandatory memory cards, but that is like thanking hitler for the "innovation" of ethnic cleansing.
Anyway, I obviously love Nintendo. I do not regret buying a Wii at all because there are PLENTY of good games for it if you are willing to suspend your cynicism. I think it scares away some "hard-core" gamers because many people equate great games with either intense complexity and zillions of hours of gameplay (like a FF game) or being able to shoot someone in the face (like any game my students tell me I should play). Play Boom Blox and tell me it isn't a great game. Or Katamari, or Super Paper Mario. (I know Katamari isn't Nintendo, but I always feel the need to put "great" and "Katamari" near each other.)
So, nothing but Nintendo love here.

I've heard it's supposed to be pretty awesome, but basically identical in gameplay to the old Punch-Out, and with only 15 characters. I've been thinking about buying it myself, if only to give myself a reason to blow the dust off the wii again.

I love the game, but it's such a pain in the ass! They just can't stop adding stars to the levels! Every time I think I've finished up all the possible combinations, Luigi gets his ass trapped and other hidden stars suddenly show up. Bullshizznit, I say!
Still really thinking about Punch-Out! If I'd seen that Amazon deal, I would have probably taken it, but it's at full price now.

My kids have GBA's and I have a DS that I got for free and repaired (roms are great for the NDS, too ) but really, only the monkeys play it.
I was at my dad's this weekend and he has a Wii. I am seriously thinking about getting one now.
Nintendo is as awesome as they have always been!

oh my bad... i forgot about this. yeah the game is fun as hell... i wish there were more characters and titles to win. but once you get used to the controls its just like the original games. i spent a good 4 straight hrs playing it from midnight to 4. but then again, there isnt any online play and it is just the same thing as the other games just on the wii. but in the end i loved it.
Nice ! I was debating getting at Target tonight but passed it up, now I am grab it!
Did you use the WII Fit with it?

I am with you! I think I am at 24 with the portables, still trying to find a cheap Turbo Grafx 16. I was at a local game store that had one and they wanted $100 for it with no games!!!!! WEAK! I could maybe understand if it was the Turbo Express. I could kick myself for not buying one for $50 a few years ago that came with eight games.
The other majors I am missing is the 5200, 7800, 3DO, Jaguar and the ever expensive NEO GEO.
But I think it is cheaper to buy a arcade cabinet for the NEO GEO these days.

I have to say, that kind of sounds like a bummer. I would have imagined more characters – specifically a lot of unlockable characters (Mario, Metroid, etc.). And some online option seems like it would have made sense, especially if there aren't a lot of characters.oh my bad... i forgot about this. yeah the game is fun as hell... i wish there were more characters and titles to win. but once you get used to the controls its just like the original games. i spent a good 4 straight hrs playing it from midnight to 4. but then again, there isnt any online play and it is just the same thing as the other games just on the wii. but in the end i loved it.
But I'm sure it's fun. I wasted countless hours on Tyson's Punch-Out and this looks equally addicting.
