So I was bored and was wondering what the actual color of the rubber was underneath these painted Minikins. Being a man of action I tracked down some paint thinner and threw one of my dupes in. I definitely let it sit too long as the rubber was beginning to dissolve but still think it turned out pretty cool. Maybe the paint thinner could have been diluted as well. Anyway thought I would share... The pics make them look lighter than they really are but thay turn out a darker, flat gray sort of like the gray of the painted Dead Ted

EDIT: It looks much closer to the second picture

yeah ive done this with a few different sculpts, some are grey, some are purple, and some are white. I havent found anything that wont hurt the figures though. They all show some damage.

I havent found anything that doesn't damage them either and this could be in part why they look a bit distorted. The paint jobs on most of them is pretty poor anyway in my opinion.

I planned on doing this, this weekend, but looks like the last bit of my acetone evaporated.  I'm kinda glad to hear the figure gets a little damaged.  I would want fake black nasty nicks to pop up.  But I"m also bummed because i wanted a purple creepy carol. Ah well maybe I'll still give it a try after I pick up some paint remover.

I would suggest soaking them in either Simple Green (my first choice), or Pine Sol. These both strip a variety of paints from most anything and are gentler than other solvents. Pine Sol will result in a pine-fresh minikin for the rest of it's life though. I'll do some experimenting in the near future and post here!

Bah! I tried Simple Green and it did nothing. But I'll not give up.

Interesting experiments but I can't help but feel like there's a blasphemous element to such disfigurement. The unpainted results look more akin to knockoff vending machine toys.

Really?!?! How long did you soak it?

I soaked a MUSCLE figure, that had been covered in boat paint, for four days and everything came off very easily - http://blog.uofmuscl...9-simple-green/

I soaked it over night, which has worked for most models I've owned. I think the primer they use leaches into the silicone rubber however. Most of my painted Minikins have noticeable cracks under all the paint, not cracks in the paint mind you, but indented lines where cracks had already formed prior to their thick glossy coat. I'll try again soon with another for a weeks time and with hot Simple Green. If it does work it will be a lot more gentle than the acetone though. I'll get some concetrated ammonia and try that too.

Ive used a product called Bulls Eye to remove paint. Its the best ive found, and doesnt damage the figures.
