Can someone, anyone, please tell me why Ninja Mites are so sought after? They aren't especially attractive, and honestly don't seem to be what I would call "rare". Yet they seem to be selling for ridiculous sums of money. Why? For the love of everything holy, why?
Is it just a small group of collectors driving up prices? I can't imagine there is a huge market for people willing to pay $250 per figure. It HAS to be only a few people doing this.
It's like in the Mego community there is one guy from Italy that sets every astonishing price record. Every time a Mego item goes sky high it is because this one guy is after it, pursued by a couple of guys who NEVER outbid him. Those guys only serve to strengthen this collector's resolve to get what he wants. If you take him out of the equation (as happens to all who come out of the woodwork with the same "rare" item after auction end), the bids come no where near as high. Is this situation akin to the ninja mite thing? Or is it this...Seller A's auction spikes, seller B throws same stuff up, it's going for nothing so they shill into oblivion. This causes seller C's auction to spike, so seller D puts the same stuff up and shills creating a false, ever escalating value system? A value system which is now officially spiraling out of control.
Please enlighten me.
