Every year I go to a comic convention in which there were many comic book artists. I got the idea to take a few Battle Beasts with me to see if any of the artists would draw them up. 2 artists did. Most artists charged about $50, but one of these guys were nice enough to do it for free if I would buy one of his $15 trade paperbacks. So I will probably do this every year. Its a neat personal collectible. I don't have a big enough scanner so for now here are some crappy photographs.

This first one is done by Tony More who pencilled The Walking Dead and pencils Fear Agent.

Posted Image

The 2nd one is by Tony Castillo who recently drew an Evil Ernie mini series.

Posted Image

The 3rd is by Tom Scioli a self publisher of a book called Opus 8.

Yeah Tony Moore seemed like a swell guy. He remembered Battle Beasts when I asked him to do a piece of art for me. Next show I'll bring more and different beasts.

You should have him do the GBs!!! ;)

I can't even imagine an ink drawing of that quality showing the 3 GBs in their GLORY!!! ;) The LB book sketches DON'T do them justice!

Tony More's Bat is about to jump off the page! Every time I look at it my instincts tell me to duck. The shading and gradients for the 2nd piece by Tony Castillo look fantastic. Looks really good w/the light source in the front of the Shark. It adds a nice effect washing out any hard lines that you would see on the front of his armor. How were those white streaks/rain done?

Ok so I went to Botcon and as some of you know I like to get professional artists to dray Battle Beast pictures. It is a fun and unique addidition to my collection. Here are 2 more that I had Alex Milne (TF comic book artist) and Marcelo Matere (TF box artist) dray for me. I decided to use Pirate Lion (my favorite!) and Hot Rod. Enjoy!

in most TF circles (unfortunetly) beastformers means anything from the Beast Wars era, lol

I favor the bottom one too only because the head on the top one is alittle undersized for the body. I'm curious why did you team these two together, were they your most favorite toys of your youth?

That photo is pimp pete!

I prefer the top pic despite its unorthodox/less refined look. It looks like Leo has some girth to him lol (i bet he has a vicious headlock ).

The top one was $20 and the bottom $30. I think Alex was going to give me something a little simpler, but just got carried away with it. I love the color in the top one and like the Hot Rod a great deal as well. The lion is not so traditional looking, but It is a neat take on him. The bottom lion is very cool looking.

There was just a handful of beasts there this year. A couple of dealers had loose ones and a few had boxed Japanese ones. They were overpriced IMO. Hydra was there with a few beasts.

I was hoping for a Clear Gator/Burstsun Lion set, but no luck :o

Cool.

Strange that the colored image was cheaper... Markers aren't cheap. I would love to draw with markers but cannot afford it...

I like the colored better, it jumps right at me. Yeah, the head is really too small but all in all... cool stuff.
In the bottom image are too many lines a little messy (sorry e+ just my opinion)

I have some questions too ;)

You were at this con, right?

If yes, so you saw them draw it there, did they use a pencil before using the markers or just right away sketching the outlines?

What are the sizes of the papers, normal 8x11? Or bigger? (when i look at the signature and the size of the background wood texture i would not say they are too big)

See, this was when Pirate Lion and Hot Rod had to team up to fight the Evil Headshrinking Quintessons, an after Lion's head is restored, they are so mad they beat up a Paparazzi photographer who was trying to capture the action....
