I thought I had paid too much for mine, but the price on this one brought it back up again...

I must admit I thought it wouldn't go much above £100 this time.

I was going to bid but it got too high for me even at $100. I was floored when I saw the final price.

So how was it determined that the origin of these premiums was an arcade in NJ? Was it just one, or a chain of arcades? I mean, how would that even work from a production standpoint? Must have been a pretty small run, and it seems weird to me that they would produce figures in exclusive colors for just one location and not distribute them to other places as well. Or are these considered bootleg premiums?

They are thought to be legit Matchbox premiums. The arcade thing came from sellers saying they originally got them as arcade prizes in NJ. Beyond that, nothing is known of their origin (as far as I'm aware). I tend to think there must be a bunch more out there somewhere. As you said, it wouldn't seem to make much sense to produce a tiny run for one place in those colors.

I reckon the seller has a few more of these, which is what makes this a really silly price.

I do find it quite coincidental how the seller keeps finding these things and no one else seems to..............

To be fair, the seller said he grew up in New Jersey and all these promos were found at least once before he showed up. I expect he just hoarded them like I did the cereal premiums.

They look too perfect to be bootlegs.

As soon as I saw the ending price I was thinking that there's a good chance we'll see auctions for more of them appear soon, haha.

I really want those premiums but I just won't pay anywhere near what this one sold for. It very well might be rare enough to warrant that price, but I personally can't justify paying that much for any single mini figure.

EDIT: Jud (or anyone else), do you remember exactly how many different sellers have offered the arcade figures now? Cyan Jotun, pine T-Rex and orange Hydra are said to be from arcades too, right? Has there been any sellers who have had both pink Jotun, pink & cyan Cyclops, etc in addition to cyan Jotun, etc, or has it always been separate people?

I am pretty sure there was more than one seller who had figures they said were from an arcade, but what I'm interested to know is if any single seller had ALL of the arcade figures. And by that I mean orange Hydra, pine T-Rex and cyan Jotun (which I think surfaced first and seem to go for much lower prices than the others) in addition to pine Hydra, cyan and pink Cyclops, pink Jotun, orange T-Rex.

I think there have been at least 3 sellers, but I think Fireball was the only one with the complete set. I wasn't here for who sold the original Pink Jotun and Cyclops, but that was long before FBP showed up.

I had one when I was in California.  It came from a muscle men lot auction.  No clue what part of the US the muscles came from.

Ah, now I remember reading this from when jkaris sold his. I'd love to know if the one from your lot and the one jkaris sold both originally came from NJ. If these came from other areas as well, it would make me feel a bit more hopeful that I could eventually get them for a reasonable price.

I managed to buy mine after all the heavy hitters had waded in & it seemed interest for these had died down.
I think I paid just over £30 a rare premium which I was stoked with tbh.
A NY Great Beast is probably gonna cost me more than my Pink Jotun Troll if one ever turns up. That & pink Ghost!

As 1313 i've bought my pink cyclop, jotun troll and jungle hydra from this seller at the good time, when prices were low (60$ each).

i've already found a cyan cyclop in french flea market.

The one I had was mixed in with a random lot. I gave it to my son and he had it for years before he decided to sell him MIMP. It was only then we found out it was worth $$$. He got himself a few nice things with the proceeds, ha ha.
