So i've been told a few times by people who know what they are doing that for toy sculpting/designing purposes i really need to get a website rather then just a blog or whatever. Does anyone here have experience with that? I have never done anything like that before and can barely even figure out how to use blogspot correctly. With a full size toy coming out next month as well as having a few things in the works it does make sense but i have no idea what i am getting myself into. Any tips?

I believe that Bachman does some design work and I've seen examples of his work too... pretty nice looking sites!  Check out his Battle Beast site - that's a good example.

Good luck!!

I think your best bet would be to ask Jkaris.

Setting up a bigcartel or storenvy is really easy....... I prefer Bigcartel. Those are really easy sites to sell from and free up to 5 items.

If you want "your own" website, i.e. "zectron.com"- there are a number of sites specifically for this. The cheapest I found was $10 a month for having your own domain name.

But yes- Jkaris would know how to take you through this with ease I bet.

I've visited your blog a bunch, and always was looking for some kind of "shop" tab or something.

Yeah i will probably ask Karis about it. I am not looking to open a store really just a little site to catalog and showcase and get credit for some work.

A blog will be faster and easier to manage than a website.

Plus - if you are keeping it fairly simple, you can very easily tie your blog, facebook, instagram, etc. together.

You'd just have to update it periodically, haha

It really depends on what the main purpose of the website would be. Would it be a combination of sharing news and having a photo gallery/portfolio? If so, you could accomplish that just by setting up a Facebook fan page, which would be much easier.

If you really needed to have a website, it's actually possible to set up a blog to function more like a standard website, or to add additional pages to your blog to set up a photo gallery, about page or whatever. For example, the Neclos website I made is built with Blogger, but has no blog. People also often make non-blog websites using Wordpress. Depending on how much customization you want it requires a little bit of playing around with the HTML code, but you don't really have to have a lot of knowledge about that -- I don't, so I usually just Google how to do stuff and then follow step-by-step instructions.

Thanks again for all the advice everyone.

I think what i might try is actually just getting a domain address and changing the blog url to that. The steps are beyond me but i can hopefully snail my way through it. Main reason being with a few things coming out people keep telling me having a blog address or just an instagram looks too unprofessional in adverts and on packaging. I don't really care but if it's an easy fix then why not i suppose.

Don't listen to other people.

If you have questions, then listen and learn - but there is not a single "best" way to do anything.

You know what will matter more than your web address? The things you are making. I've never seen a toy/figure/shirt/painting/etc. and thought, "I was going to buy it, but their website is a .tv."

You might be able to buy a domain right through Blogger, which makes it really easy. They charge you a fee yearly to keep it -- somewhere between $12 - $15. I know I've done that before, but Blogger is always switching things up so I'm not sure if that's still the case. You can check by logging into your blog, going to "settings," then "basic," then see what it shows under "Publishing." If you think there's anything I can help with, feel free to ask.

It looks great. Don't over think it. The figures are the stars on that site. Nice job!

Oh, look. An update. Now you never had to post ever again.

Jokes aside, the site always looked good, but now you're actually putting your work forward and taking long-overdue credit for it. Some of the renamings are pretty hilarious.

Thank you. It's kind of fun messing around with it but i am not good at the technical stuff at all.

Appreciate it man. I think what helped me the most was finally having the time to take my own decent pictures of stuff. The sculpt and design doesn't matter much if the pics look like crap.

Haha well I updated it several times in the past few weeks so there's that.

The names for toys thing always bugged. A few things i designed and sculpted and named ended up being released with names i did not come up with. So the renaming thing is actually taking stuff back how it was supposed to be. Though no one will ever care except me i am still happy about it.

I care, but I don't really count. I mean, every time I see your stuff, posted by someone else with ZERO credit or mention of you, I get a little more pissed off. Seems like the same person goes out of their way to mention everyone and there grandma, but not you.

Always comes off as LOOK AT THIS GREAT STUFF I'M MAKING (pay no attention to the fact that someone sculpted it and I'm just painting it and punching in a braid of colorful hair I stole from my MLP collection) Really? when was the last time you actually MADE something buddy?

Sorry had to get that out again......

Anyhow, as always, your stuff looks great! Maybe going forward I'll just post a link to your site every time I run across your stuff online?

Gee, Luke, that seemed oddly specific, haha

And yeah, despite the fact that we'd try to make sure people knew it was your work, it will be nice to be able to finally use your blog as a resource to show people who actually made that stuff, versus who just stole your work and the applicable credit for said work.
