Lol... Thanks dude. She is actually going to wear it to work tomorrow morning!
To be fair, we can't take all the credit, we adapted the design from another balloon twister. We actually simplified it a bit believe it or not.

I'll cosign the general "awesome!" response and one up this:
Holy shit, dude! Aliens is one of my favorite movies.
Aliens is my favorite movie. I've never seen a xenomorph costume, so the innovative take was a pleasure to peep.
Thank you

How many separate balloons are in a piece like that?
How long does it take to assemble?

Well keep in mind that this was our first time doing this, and that we actually changed the design from another balloon twisters original design. But I think it took between 2-3 hours. But again it would never take that long again... I would say a 2nd try would be 1-11/2 hours. But I'm only guessing. Repetition is the key to speed... Practice practice practice!!
What I want to do is get the head down, and adjust the design so that it can be worn like a hat. And hopefully get the twist time down to 15 mins. But that may be a bit optimistic... I'm not the fastest twister in the world.
Oh and I don't remember on the number of balloons honestly... I'd have to do some back tracking to figure that one out. Not to mention the ones that we lost along the way (they popped!).

You should have a contest where people guess the number of balloons in such a sculpture.
Do you call them sculptures?
What is the fate of this sculpture/costume after the Halloween party at work?
Is there a prize for best costume?

I would be surprised if it made it through the day of work, Steve. BUT if art least the head is mostly intact we are twisting balloons tonight at a fall festival so one of us will probably wear it.
That is a great idea for a contest though... I've never actually done a LRG contest before so me thinks the next time we do a big balloon sculpture (yes that's appropriate, although I would say this is more costume and the picture you posted would be more sculpture) I will be sure and keep track of the number of balloons next time.

I just thought it might be fun -- not for a prize or anything -- just because I look at these things and I have no idea where one balloon ends and another begins, how long a balloon is, how many are in a particular section or anything like that.
Also, I was thinking that maybe the costume was a commission or something to be exhibited at a festival or who knows.

I thought you might like to see this one Steve...
It's not from us, but another balloon twister. They did it for a commissioned display I think. Anyhow it took them 18 HOURS!! Crazy, right? Just looking at the first pic, you don't realize how big it is until you see the 2nd pic.

If one or two pop, how difficult is it to replace them?
About how much do you think a commission like that costs?
#22
Posted 30 October 2015 - 02:26 PM
It really just depends on what the popped balloon is holding together. If it's out there on its own, it might not be that bad to replace. If it takes down a few other balloons with it when it pops... then that makes it more difficult.
As far as commission prices, they vary wildly per twister. Sometimes folks do it for free just for the steer creed. I might be wrong about that one, it may have not been a commission piece... but honestly I wouldn't do something like that for less than $500. For something like that IMO you should be making at LEAST $25-30. And that's the VERY VERY low end.
