How do we know it is authentic?

How do we know only 3 were made?

Because no one who sells on ebay, or steals prototype toys from Mattel would lie.
C'mon, man!:p

I know we don't really ever see them, but how would we know if one WAS authentic?

Genuinely curious, as I don't know much at all about these cars.

I have no clue personally how to tell if its real.

I would guess that anyone who collects hot wheels in this price range will have the skills to determine if it is legit. The few times I have looked into hotwheel stuff out of curiousity, it seemed there were all sorts of little diagnostic features that the savy buyer would look for to verify a piece - tire type and manufacture location, etc. and these would lead to identifying year, series, etc.  I could be totally wrong however.   :D

I personally wouldn't take a chance on an item like this with 0 provenance provided by seller that has 300 feedback. Yeah its 100% positive feedback and they seem like a genuine seller at first glance, but if I am shelling out this loot on a very rare collectible I am getting it from a high name vendor with something to lose and some serious cred in the community.

I really don't understand why the seller didn't provide a better description and put a little bit more work into a clean and nice listing if they really wanted this thing to sell. The pics are decent, but really could be better resolution, and the description is riddled with misspellings, unsubstantiated statements, and just plain weirdness.

Oh well. Will continue to watch it out of curiosity.

Oh and the other thread is here:

That is actually a good question.

It is also what I find so silly about this auction. The damn thing looks just like every other one of these type Hot Wheels trucks, just with a different sticker on it.

Seems like I heard a little blip about this thing a long, long time ago but I know nothing about it and have never seen one. Very, very cool piece if it were real (?)

Haven't posted here in a while BTW... hope all is well in LRG land...

As Rubberhamner said,it looks like every other version of the Hiway Hauler. It would be so easy to make a bootleg. It's like Jawa capes all over again.

I'm not saying I would personally do it,because it's a terrible thing to do,but an unscrupulous dealer (and there's unfortunately too many in the toy community) could all too easily make fakes and sell them for big $.

I don't recall where, or even type of format it was in, but somebody had made a post/article/video with step by step instructions on how to create a MUSCLE HiWay Hauler using a base model of one of these panel trucks. They went as far as to detail the 2 or 3 specefic Hot Wheels models/releases that were identical to the MUSCLE one. Because, like previously mentioned, there is minute details that vary among different releases. I meant to save that information, or atleast the location of it, as I considered building one. Maybe somebody here remembers where that information is... And hello everybody! Been awhile since my last post too. Hope all is well.

That is awesome! I actually think that's cooler than a custom Hot Wheels. Was someone making those or did you fabricate that yourself? Is that a sticker slapped on there? Would be neat to get a bunch of stickers of that size made. You could do all sorts of little custom pieces.
