A bunch of pics of various sculpting projects from the last few years - some of them I've even finished!?

In no real order or anything, here is a selection of photos that I have to hand on my phone :p

I now sculpt as a hobby (after "retiring" from the industry in 2002) and look forward to getting some inspiration for future projects here! :)

Once I get my ass into gear and finish the Preda-Tubby, next in line will probably be "A Nightmare on Sesame Street", with a scarred Ernie weilding the famous glove and Fedora

So talented!    That head on a spike looks like Vincent Price or something from an old Aurora kit.   B)

Here in the UK it's 19:19pm and I'm just settling into a 12 hour night shift. I've brought some sculpting tools n Milliput with me, so if it's a quiet shift with no disasters (now work at a power station, not sure how I went from sculpting toys to this, but hey) I'll be cracking on with my first MIMP style sculpt I've done in 13 years!

Let's see what rubbish I can knock up tonight :p

The body for TinyP's Onslow wrestling minifigs is pretty much done, I'm just making a hash of the head (chopped one, lost one, rejected others for trying too hard, being too big and being too wee) but eventually I'll find a style that works...

That is beautiful. This is pretty much how I wish I could make my hands sculpt. That hand looks right off of a MUSCLE figure. Love it.

Rather counterintuitively, the less detail in a piece, the more work it seems to be! I remember sculpting Teletubby toys n being driven to distraction trying to nail the amorphous blobs they had for bodies. A piece with lots of details helps distract the eye from any mistakes, but the slightest inaccuracy on very simple piece stands out a mile...
The hand originally was more human, but I wanted to try and keep more of the MUSCLE feel by pulling it back to help offset the extra musculature on the arms n legs.
Same with the head, a portrait sculpt just looks wrong, so I'm working on a simple blob that will still be recognisable?! Luckily I don't have a deadline (other than people just losing interest lol).

It did start as a throw away comment, but during a very quiet night shift at work I ended up making a start on it

It started as a joke and is now better than anything I will ever seriously attempt to sculpt. Forever.

Let me just say that I appreciate the effort all around.   Rather I enjoy specific sculpts/figures or not, the imagination and attention to detail is like a shot of adrenaline.

My sculpts tell me every time I look at them.

I cannot wait to see this thing finished. I will want a few I think!

I thiiiiiink that will do for the head - it's drying at the mo, so will give it a final polish and then etch some kind of MUSCLE style maker's mark on the back.

Dude, that is fantastic!     :shok:

For his maker's mark, what about something that gives a nod to yourself and Geoffrey Hughes?

(RIP)

Really knocked me out with this, bud.   I recognized him right away.    :hi:

ThanQ kindly - trying to distill his likeness down to a super-simplified 2" figure that didn't look too busy took a couple of attempts, but I think it's a happy medium between what he looked like and how people remember him.

I also had to tweak his cap to more of a "trucker" shape as the original was such an ugly lump

C'mon, my ex-wife might have her own 'personal issues', but that isn't fair.

Either way, man, he looks great.  A nice combo of reality and stylized caricature.   Is this the exact figure I'm getting?  Are you planning on going to the mold stage?

I have no plans, personally, to mold/cast him. If you decide to go down that route then chuck one back my way :D
