I recently found a good deal on a set of McDonald's 'Dinosaur Days' Diener dinosaur figures that I couldn't pass up. Shortly afterwards I stumbled across a bargain lot of assorted rubber figures that included a number of what appeared to be Diener dinos and a few Medusas. When I got the two lots in, I immediately noticed a few things:

  • The orange Dinosaur Days dinos were firm rubber with the exception of the the ankylosaurus which was the expected keshi/eraser material, leading me to believe it was mis-matched from the set.
  • All of the dinos I got in the second lot weren't Dieners but were slightly smaller, very similarly sculpted figures. There are noticeable differences like leg positioning so they're clearly not re-casts, but it's almost like the sculptor was using the Dieners as reference pieces and making adjustments here and there. Made of MIMP-style flexible rubber, with 'China' as the only markings.

Here are some comparison shots.

Noticeably the the lowest-detail KO of the batch.

I haven't come across a KO of the ankylosaurus yet, but here's the mismatched eraser-material one I received with my McDonalds set.

The brachiosaur sculpt doesn't appear to have a Diener counterpart.

I guess it's possible that this is just a coincidence, but they seem too similar to me. What do you guys think? If anyone has more concrete information to about the legit Dieners or these KOs please share :)

I never knew what these guys were, though I run across them all the time! I have a GITD of the Brachiosaur. It is hard rubber though, so maybe it is a knockoff.

Man, these things have been copied tons of times.
I've had the stegosaurus, and the pteranadon, with the turned head, in GITD, and the same pteranadon in an olive drab. I've also had several of them in at least three different kinds of rubber.

I even have some Diener aliens in hard plastic, they have been booted so many times.

the "booted but in different materials" thing makes sense to me, it's just odd that the figs appear to have been re-sculpted rather than copied.

Are all legit Dieners (except the McDonalds ones) eraser material? The two medusas I mentioned are firmer rubber as well, almost PVC firmness.

Some of my Diener aliens and monsters are firm, comparable to MUSCLE rather than MIMP. I believe the firm ones are later releases. Not sure about the Dinos, though.

Yeah, I have actual Diener figs in two different materials as well.
One eraser-like, and one firm.

Thanks for sharing guys, I was actually kind of surprised that there wasn't already a thread for these. I turned up a few threads mentioning the monsters/space aliens sets but that's it. Google mostly just returns eBay listings. I can't find anything solid about the Dinosaur Days promo and specifics of the figures available other than a few Happy Meal box images that are allegedly connected to it.

Oddly enough, even though the Dieners are more detailed I find myself liking the KO's more; might just come down to the flexibility of the rubber used. I'd agree that the firmer ones are similar to MUSCLE rubber.

I own a soft rubber mimp-like red brachiosaur that I got in a mimp lot. I've asked around on some Fb pages but nobody knew what it was. Glad to finally know.
