I do not care for the new "Battle Beasts" designs that can't seem to even decide what they want to be.
I also laugh to find that to purchase every beast you will also have to pay for a uninspired civilian mini-mate.
They have to pass off the cost of each unique sculpt by selling each with a basic mini-mate.
I don't really want to get involved with this topic, but I was reading it to see what people think. I just wanted to say that the above is incorrect. There is not going to be a basic human minimate for ever beast minimate. There are only two humans scheduled to be released. The two main human characters from the comic book. For series 1, they wanted the specialty store assortment to be comic story accurate. So all the beasts are painted in their more subdued comic colors, and they are including the two main human characters. There are some collectors that will probably be interested in having minimate versions of the human characters to set up and interact with the beast figures. A lot of the minimate collectors really like being able to reenact scenes from comics or movies with these figures. That is something that is part of the appeal of minimates, with their articulation.
For the Toys R Us series 1 release, the colors are going to be a bit brighter and more vibrant, and there will be no humans. Instead, Toys R Us will be getting the Bat and the viking Moose that we saw control art for. So if you look for Battle Beasts at Toys R Us, you'll only see two packs comprised entirely of unique sculpted beasts. There are 8 different beasts that will be separated into 4 different 2 packs.
So, the majority of two packs will be entirely beasts. It seems like only 2 different packs in the specialty store wave 1 will have any basic human minimates. And from what I remember, I believe they said that these would be the only two humans released. Myself, I'm not really too interested in the humans, (I really just want to get beasts) but it will only be for 2 packs, and if I wasn't wanting to be a completist with the line, I could easily just ignore the comic book color schemes and get all the beasts at TRU. That is certainly a lot better than a lot of the other 2 pack small figure lines that I have collected in the past. Man, I don't know how many Spidermans I have from trying to get unique, interesting characters in the superhero squad line... I swear every other pack had a Spiderman...
