Hi all

A few months ago I remember bidding on an auction on Ebay containing just Orange Kraken
and Orange Winged Panther. Now I just assumed they were both Premiums. I didn't realize
that Winged Panther Orange is not 'known' among other collectors.

Did anyone on LRG win this auction? OR Does anyone have a Winged Panther in series 2
Orange to prove it's existence?

Thanks
Darryl

I remember that auction because I won it - I will add very quickly that it wasn't for me, it was for another forum member, who asked me to win it on their behalf

The upshot is, they weren't orange, it was just a very bad photo, so essentially £6 was wasted on two very ordinary figures.

I will leave it to the person for whom these figures were won to choose to unmask themself or not, depending on whether they want their embarrassment to become public

Ouch! Well I guess that puts an end to the mystery.

I have made the same mistake before... purchasing a Hobgoblin and Windigo from
Australia thinking they were Pine Green premiums. Turned out they were Neon Green.
Certainly makes me think I should question sellers more!

Especially in this case because we didn't get pine green figures in Australia.

But if you start questioning the sellers they become suspicious and you end up paying more for it.
And it was me who asked Strontium to place a bid on my behalf, Ive done it before and it'll probably happen again.
When I did it before I got lucky so you win some you lose some.
Its a bit like the Pink Jotun Troll if he was selling it we wouldnt have asked so many questions.

But if you are just asking whether the colour is yellow or orange?!
I know this worked for me before as I nearly bid on a yellow vampire
I thought was neon yellow. Sometimes the sellers add questions to
the bottom of auctions this can obviously be annoying as it invites
competition if its a colour in demand.

It is great rewards for sellers that are ignorant to such demand
for colours/pieces. I say fair play. It always makes me laugh that
likely they go away searching the attic for any others that they
thought they had just to list on Ebay at a higher starting price haha.

bottom line: damn crappy photography and lighting conditions

That's why I generally don't like to ask questions; if it's something rare and the seller reveals that fact to all and sundry, congratulations you just blew the price skyhigh. There's a definite trade-off there between taking a risk on something that might not be the real deal and potentially revealing an amazing find to the competition.

I see this especially with GPK Cheap Toys, there's always someone who asks if they float or not, floaters being worth megabucks. If the sellers says they do float and publishes the question and answer, the price goes through the roof. I personally would prefer to bid blind, get 'em cheap then see if you get lucky or not. But maybe that's because the first GPK auction I ever won was 20 floaters

Compare the colour to the Anubis the same seller is selling - looks like it could be orange to me. This seller sure has some pretty decent figures to sell.

Despite what the seller says it looks like a yellow figure meets bad lighting to me. Could be wrong, but I definitely wouldn't feel confident bidding with the thought that it's orange.

I am the seller of the orange winged panther and can asure anyone interested the figure is orange and agree the picture does not make this clear with regards to my low feedback these are the first item I have ever sold and we are not big user of eBay we just occasionally buy are daughter things from the site, I hope this clears up any doubt over the authenticy of the listing, the reason I am selling the figures listed is with a third child on the way I no longer have the spare cash to keep collecting so am dispersing my colloction

Do you remember how/where you acquired the panther? What about dropping a better pic in this thread?

Having just seen this i thought id put my 2p worth in. Most likely it's one of the following

1. Neon Red Wingered Panther (bad lighting in photo)
2. Stained Neon Yellow Panther(sunlight perhaps)
3. Mexican Orange
4. Highly unlikely (genuine matchbox orange wingered panther)

I am happy to eat my own hat if its genuine as i have never seen an Orange Matchbox Wingered panther and i've lived in the UK all my life. Also if it is that would mean all the other 5pt monsters existed as well and i dont believe that we have all not seen all 12 low end monsters in another colour!!

Following that train of thought then there would be 100% these figures as mimps always have 2 colours and there opposites match up i.e if cyan panthers partner was orange then all other cyan would be orange aswell. And all pink and pine would exist vise-versa. this is the main reason why i think it's option 1-3. Just too unlikely!

Ghoul - Cyan
The Phantom - Cyan
Mad Scientist - Orange
Wingered Panther - Orange
Mummy - Orange
Charon - Orange
The Beast - Pine Green
Witch - Pine Green
Spring Heeled Jack - Pink
Invisible Man - Pink
Skeleton - Pink
Hunchback - Pink

If you can post a picture of it next to another orange series 1 premium you have & or the series 3 figure that would help. I'm also unsure whether you are colletor or not as your not on this website but own canadian premiums? Not calling you a liar more i think you maybe mistaken. However, if i'm wrong then i hold my hands up.

It doesn't look neon red, but the seller ought to take another photo with a neon red figure to clear up that particular issue.

Staining seems also to be doubtful, unless a deliberate attempt has been made to create an orange figure. Again, an image next to a genuine orange figure could clear that up.

Not everyone who collects MIMP is a member of this community, unfortunately. It's not beyond the realms of possibility that someone could have a great collection and to have never visited this place before.

Just because an orange Winged Panther may exist does not necessarily mean that all the other 5pt monsters have alternate colours too.

Mexican orange is a possibility I would agree, however the orange panther in the picture appears to be of commensurate quality to Matchbox figures rather than the shoddy bootlegesque quality of the Sonrics.

If the seller were to give a more thorough account of their collecting history and advance any theories of where the figure may have come from, I am sure that would help assuage any doubts. it is in their overwhelming interest; these doubts are the difference between the figure going for £50 and £250.

"It doesn't look neon red, but the seller ought to take another photo with a neon red figure to clear up that particular issue."

--Indeed i think another photo would help and i have seen many mimp look strange colours just based on a photo all accidental of course

"Staining seems also to be doubtful, unless a deliberate attempt has been made to create an orange figure. Again, an image next to a genuine orange figure could clear that up."

-- Yes i agree it was just one option i had thought of

"Not everyone who collects MIMP is a member of this community, unfortunately. It's not beyond the realms of possibility that someone could have a great collection and to have never visited this place before."

-- I find it strange that someone who collect MIMPs wouldnt want to be part of the community and then wants to sell an extremly rare mimp and mentions it on the boards seems odd.

"Just because an orange Winged Panther may exist does not necessarily mean that all the other 5pt monsters have alternate colours too."

-- I think it's highly likey they would all exist as Matchbox always matched everything up

series 1 standard 2 or 4 of each colour,
series 1 neons all 4 colours,
series 2 all colours,
series 3 all colours, except orobas and Blemyea

Series 1 premiums either in 1 figure(late numbers), 2figures (first 12 figures) or 3(Cerberus & Ghost) colours. It just doesn't match anything that they have ever done and therefore i dont think makes sense. That is why i believe it's all or nothing. I just dont see why Wingered Panther would just be randomly made in orange and the others not made at all.(doesn't not compute lol)

"Mexican orange is a possibility I would agree, however the orange panther in the picture appears to be of commensurate quality to Matchbox figures rather than the shoddy bootlegesque quality of the Sonrics."

--Again hence why i put it further down my options list also dont think it matches up with mexican orange but again that could be down to the picture. Not a huge mexican collector but from some that i have the quality does look really good on some.

"If the seller were to give a more thorough account of their collecting history and advance any theories of where the figure may have come from, I am sure that would help assuage any doubts. it is in their overwhelming interest; these doubts are the difference between the figure going for £50 and £250."
--Indeed i would be more than happy to bid if it was proven 100% like other rare figures. But for now i feel it's best to wait

The main reason I joined yesterday and post is that had recieved a lot of questions on eBay regarding the item, when I looked this up on google I came across the furom discussing my figure so thought I would be a good idea to clear up any doubts you guys have over its authenticty, with regards to not being a member of the community I think it could have been invaluble to me when I was collecting, its clear just looking at the forums the wealth of information available and I certainly missed out

By any chance have you got MIMP with a star on its back instead of a number?

No more neon orange s1 but just as well really considering all the fuss over the panther, I've took photo's of the base and back of the figure but the numbers and letter didn't show and as you can see my camera work is not fantastic , I have read about the secret monster have not had chance to check yet I do think it is probably one of the known monsters with no point value rather than a 49th . I checked your need list unfortunately don't have any of the purple or red your after but I have got a fair few yellow and green
