Not properly a custom but a *repaint*
Wanted to give Hardtop Tortoise a black stone armour and a more realistic green skin...I must admit that painting Warhammer's orks influenced me a little bit
Here is the result :
Comments are more than welcome

I just don't feel the blade/pincer fits in with it.
Otherwise it's a fantastic repaint!

I like the way it is now.
not that it is discounted. We as consumers are conditioned to think"On Sale"means it's cheaper.

I really like the metallic pincers. I always pretended that they doubled as a claw/taser. If anything, It’d be coo’ if you put a gloss over the claw to make it all shiny!Thank you...and you're right : the pincers are not fitting well....hmmmm you gave me an ideaYou totally hit the nail on the head with the stone look. I have been considering a Turtle repaint, but after seeing fourth-heirs I decided to wait till I have developed my skills a bit better. Fantastic job, really!

Hi Grimey,Dude, this repaint is AWESOME!! I am jealous of your skills! How did you get such good detail between scales on the turtle....and how did you achieve the amazing looking stone work for the shell?

Actually my repaint was mainly made by using the dry brush way, beginning by darker colour and finishing by lighter one.
I used Games Workshop's acrylic paints.
On some parts, in order to give more "deepness" (like around the eyes) I used dark inks (still from GW).
As for the scales, my first layer was a dark green one then I started to perform several dry brushes (3 or 4) with lighter colours. With this technics, the "space" between scales which is "deeper" than the scales themselves remains in dark green colour....
I guess it took me 8 hours or so to make this repaint. But I need to work 1/2 hour more to give "light stone" aspect to the claws.
BTW, I have found my new victim and it will have a futuristic look
Last but not least : my tortoise's name STONED TORTOISE

Do you have to use paint thinner with GW paints? Do they work well on plastic, or are they intended for metal?
I love the quality of them, I need to start upgrading my paints for customs now.
Thanks for the info!

Actually GW paints are both intented for plastic & metal.Stoned Tortoise....you crack me up! That's almost as cool as the Stoned Cobra!

I only use paint thinner when paints pots are open since a long time...otherwise there is no need.
Personnally I prefer GW paints to Tamiya acrylic ones. I never use enamel ones.....

A couple questions though: Do you use water or brush cleaner to clean your brush?
Do the inks act the same as the paints? Do they dry the same, clean up the same....
I am a little bummed though, Now I want to wait for my new paints to come to do some more customs, but it will be hard to blow an entire weekend waiting.....I do have one in the works that's about 2 hours away from completion, I guess I could drag that one out for a couple days...but then what?!

HiI just purchased 20 colors of Games Workshop paints and inks. They should be here next week some time. Thanks for the info, I hope I can adapt to using these well.

Sorry for the late of my reply, I did not connect a lot these times
So to answer your questions :
- GW paints are acrylics so brushes can be easily cleaned by water (cold or warm)
- Actually the inks give a shiny aspect. Most of the GW colours are "flat" colours, but inks are "shiny". This is the best way to make for example a reptile green skinny and give it the shiny aspect.
Would say inks are a bit longer to dry, but as easy to wash as other GW paints

I just wanted to thank you again for letting me know about these Games Workshop paints! I started a repaint that I'm sure Eaon and Gabe will like...maybe, and I'm almost finished already!
If any customizers get the chance to get this kind of paint, I HIGHLY recomend them!
I also noticed that the inks are very thin and are almost see-through if you apply it correctly, (very thin). This will be awesome for some custom ideas I have!!!
