My mother-in-law was shocked to learn that the "Japanese word," "hansamu," was actually based on the English term "Handsome."  "That is a Japanese word" she said! 

 

I love (hate) this kind of Japanese thinking.  Even though the word Hansamu is written in Katakana, the "foreign syllabary", some still think it's Japanese! hahah
