I am looking at a few laser beasts toys and they come with shields. Did these shields originally come with the toys? I am just curious.

There were 12 shields in all. Six were available in Japan in the "Shield Battler Six" boxed set (Glencats, Fight Horn, Strong Hurricane, Mantfrenzy, Battle Fennec, Killer Hound). Set included six figures with lasers/shields, and two sleds.

These were also available in Europe individually carded, though they were not sold outside of the boxed set in Japan. in addition, to six more figures were sold with shields this way in Europe (Brown Lion, Sea Panic, Dragon Seahorn, Puzzlecolor, Scope Cougar, Hustlebear). Those six shields were never released in Japan and command a high premium. None of them were released outside of Europe/Japan.

Unless you're looking to spend lots of cash, I'd recommend picking up the reproduction shields from tokyonever.

Many collectors here have sets of the shields (myself included), and I can confirm that they're just as good as the originals (arguably better, considering the stickers aren't pushing 30 years old.). He also made custom designs for the other 24 beasts that didn't originally get a shield, using the original shield designs as the plastic template and adding custom stickers. I had actually been working with another member on here to essentially do the same thing at the same time, though ours were using aftermarket LEGO shields as the base since we didn't have access to factory machining. Those have all sold out though, but you can still get his. He also sells reproduction sleds in original and custom colors.

The repro shields are really, really cool. The new designs for the figures that didn't have shields are amazing too. Highly reccomended.
