So have you seen that the cavemen or primitive people are back with the Imaginext 2015 dinos?

Gone are the high-tech space dinos with mech suits or whatever they were doing with the dino line the past two years.

From what I can tell there is one race that wears a lot of eyeliner, feathery flamboyant headresses, and briefs.  They have no weaponry, only SHIELDS.

Then there is another race with skulls painted on their faces, bone headgear, and boxers/trunks.  They have aggressive handheld weaponry made of bones and dinos mounted with cannons!

So, instead of having two factions (red vs blue, for example) with comparable technology and letting your kids, you know, imagine battle scenarios -- we've got the 'good guys' and 'bad guys' all spelled out.

Thanks Imaginext!

Haha! It looks like the bad guy race rides carnivores and the good guy race rides herbivores. OR at least something that is supposed to resemble that with their cutesy faces vs mean faces.

Well, one bad guy rides a 'Velociraptor' and the good guy rides a 'Raptor.' WTF?

And that 'Saharicus' is a species name of the Carcharodontosaurus. WTF?

Never heard of it? Neither have we. But we needed a carnivore of that size and build to square off with the peaceful herbivorous Stegosaurus. And being a carnivore is not enough, we are going to put a cannon on his back to let you know that he is of the bad, evil invading race!

Anyway, the good guys get the structure/location in the toyline. It is probably called the Peaceful Jungle Lounge or some nonsense.

It is all leading up to this $100 purchase of the giant Skeletal T-Rex. Apparently the bad guys have some bonepunk technology that allows them to put together and operate this massive bonebot and takeover camp feather tribe. Riding actual dinos like a T-Rex and a Velociraptor and even having cannon-firing technology is not enough to show the invincible might of the invading race!

Way to go Imaginext!

It was their homage to Dino Riders, as close as the Imaginext guys could get. Of course, Imaginext is Mattel and so is Dino Riders these days... but it's all we've got unless something comes of Matty Collector revisiting the series.

The Saharicus isn't referring to Carcharodontosaurus, but Kaprosuchus. Why the line doesn't simply call it Kaprosuchus is beyond me. The style of this one is a little more like what I'd prefer compared to the previous one from the Dino Riders-ish line, if it wasn't for the incredible cheapness of the dinosaurs in this series with visibly hollow limbs and no swivels.

And speaking of accuracy, the raptors were always the weirdest things, but it might be that current Imaginext doesn't want to market more complicated dinosaur names (what?!) these days so species are more simplified. I mean, their definitions of raptors have included orange Jurassic Park dilophosaur ripoffs, but with raptor claws.

to be fair, Hasbro forgot to put sickle claws on all four of the Jurassic World raptor toys that first came out. the nerd rage on the JP forums was palpable

I don't think I've noticed any of these in stores yet but the guys with the head-dresses and staves I like. Feels like some Bone Age homage going on there.

I mean, the dinosaurs just suck. I am not really into buying the larger imaginext stuff, like vehicles and animals, so it's not my hill to die on really... But I am far less concerned about the "good guy/bad guy" presentation, than I am the schlockiness of the dinosaurs' construction.
Once figures come out of the package, regardless of the presentation, the kid is going to decide how to play with them anyway they see fit. The poorly constructed dinosaurs, that will potentially break down after a few rough plays? That's much more of an issue to me.

Are these know for being poorly assembled or un-sturdy?  The dino designs seem a little lack luster, but they seem relatively well built from the pics.  Speaking of designs - the one I do like is the raptor.  While I think he looks waaaay more dragon than raptor, I think he looks fun!

Ugh, I know. Jurassic World was a movie I very much enjoyed, and other than the Walmart minifigures I've had zero desire to own any of Hasbro's merchandise. Such a disappointing year after all the cool potential of new dinosaur toys.

Don't really see much of Bone Age in the individual figures - the giant animated skeleton though, sure - as much as some kind of stereotypical South-American-natives-with-dinosaurs kind of vibe, but it's ok. I find it much odder that the line is filled with people of color (both heroes and villains, alright) but the character depicted on all the packaging is a white guy and one of the "villains" no less.

I don't think so, they seem okay other than the cheapness of the dinosaurs being more apparent than in the older lines like the static hollowed dinosaur limbs.
