Just saw the new listing. The part I liked the most is that the seller says "selling for a friend that won this as a school prize in the 80's". But the figures are still mint? Yeah that's BS.

I threw in the first bid on this with full confidence I would be outbid within a few hours. Even though the starting bid at $100 is ridiculously high for my own taste, the novelty of this item goaded me into being a part of the fun.
The same thing happens to me when SR auctions pop up with a low starting bid. The person in the bidding history with only the 99 cent opener is usually me. I am not usually one to snipe an auction in general; I am much more likely to just put in what my maximum bid would be and leave it at that. It just so happens that my highest offer is considerably lower than what others are willing to pay, more often than not.
I also noted the mint condition of the figures and that they are being sold "for a friend." According to most ebay sellers, things are "mint" as often as they are "rare," which is laughably dismissible in almost every instance, but the inclusion of superfluous details in auction descriptions tends to raise red flags for me. Complicated backstories are usually an attempt at obfuscation, which would point to deception of some type.
In this case it would appear that adding that detail would be a way to avoid more in depth questions about the origin of the item(s) beyond what was given in the description.
To me, it appears that the tube is legitimate, but the figures have likely been added as an incentive.
Out of curiosity, have the sculpts that originally came in the tube been documented? I do remember the number of figures as 10 from other accounts, as opposed to 14.

Though hardly universal, anything is possible in Wisconsin.

Isn't "selling for a friend" universally accepted here as code for " selling for He That Shall Not Be Named?
Pretty sure he's now selling under the name "boingelbes"

And what's the reason for it supposedly being sold yesterday for 100 bucks and now it's listed again as a straight up auction
Probably just a test, as it were. The reason for changing the option from BIN to auction format is obvious, but the need to present a clean, non-edited presentation overrode the omission of other oddities. I am guessing the original was ended with the help of a friend.
