So, I've been keeping my eyes peeled for a Deer Stalker Chariot WITHOUT faded horns/drills.

Everyone I've seen come up over the past year or so has had the orange color of the horns/drills faded, mottled, or blotchy.

I finally saw one on ebay that looked like it had that vibrant solid orange color with no fading. Bought kit. It arrived today. Still looked good, but horns and drills were extremely sticky. Took one light wipe with a damp paper towel and the vibrant orange just rubbed right off, leaving the horns looking exactly like all the crappy ones I've seen at auction.

Are most/all of these deer stalker chariots prone to this? I only ask because I have seen SO many with this condition.

If I were to bide my time and buy one on card to open (yes, I know the sacrilege), would I still run into this same problem (outgassing/sticky/degredation)?

So frustrated by this.

Naturally, if anyone has a DS Chariot with its beautiful orange that won't wipe off and you want to sell it...let me know! ;)

This is exactly what went down with the one I had from childhood when I tried cleaning it a few years ago. I ended up just wiping it all off to make it uniform; at least it's not sticky anymore. From what I've seen yes this seems to be a very common issue with most of them. I have one sealed MIB that I assume is ok (guess I'll never know) but I definitely hear you on this.

Yep, saddly enough your not alone in this one. I´m afraid we´ve to consider this issue to be an issue we´ve to accept like we´ve to do with a couple issues within this line which are caused by aging/degradation due to either the wrong material/paint used back in the days or by the way its affected over time by certain elements or in certain situations. The greening of the Golden Serie 2 weapons and a similar issue that goes for the Bronze Laser guns is also such an issue that´s just something we´ve to accept.

In this particular case I´d dare to say that the paint applied to the horns (and drills on the side) of this chariot is most likely a cover up of a wrong outcome of color, to pale, of these parts when produced and they decided to apply a layer of more bright orange paint. In the end this connection between the paint used on that particular type of plastic might´ve been a wrong choice and just isn´t as durable as they´d have expected, unlike (luckily) most of the other paints applied in this line.

Opening one from a sealed card would most likely result in the same outcome overtime unless you could live with the stickyness of it, but than again I wouldn´t be surprised to see even the connection with the air (taking it out of its sealed environment of the card) could be enough to trigger the process causing all this.

So its something we´ve to live with........ and for those who do have one without the faded horns DON´T TOUCH IT! ;)

Well. That is disappointing. But I guess not surprising.

Bachamn: I did the same thing, cleaned 'em all the way off so they were all consistent. They shine like they're brand new, only they're that crazy pale orange.

But I am curious. Is there anybody out there who has a LOOSE one with the original vibrant orange and it has not degraded or got sticky or anything? Do they exist?

I had one years ago that wasn't sticky or faded. Long gone though.

On a related note, unless you are a stickler for all original, why not unscrew the chassis, pull out the horns and spray paint and gloss them?

Ha!

The thought did cross my mind (to pull out the horns and drills and paint them), but they look like a pain the rear to get out.

I have been meaning to check mine since you posted this thread, and finally got around to doing so a few days back. If it weren't for you, I never would've noticed! But mine is also feeling sticky and the orange is slightly faded. I wanted to rub off the sticky, but if that reduces the colour I'll just leave it as it is. I don't muck with the chariots all the much anyways.

hmm, I didn't see your post until now.

I've a few threads of scanned paperwork and other things already started, so this is important to me as well:

I did an ultra high res scan of the Sunburst set box and cleaned-up in post, but my scanner at home isn't large enough to do a lot of the larger boxes in my collection safely. There's also the issue that most of the boxes have a top flap, which makes getting all sides a little more complicated. I have larger scanner at my office that I plan on using, but that obviously involves bringing my collection into work, which isn't practical most of the time. I'll get it done eventually, but it's not a huge priority at the moment tbh.

Thanks for answer, my friend! I started BB art reconstruction process from my BB blisters, but they unpacked and i scanned only half of card. Another half was made by my camera and all of it was united in photoshop. Next will be Laser Beasts Card. After it i can try to work with chariot cards or playset box art if you can make their scans or good quality photos. Thanks!

that seller from Singapore has listed a bunch of stuff recently and everything is overpriced. Having said that, I don't really see the Hasbro/English chariots turn up carded that often, but that's still way too expensive.

Regarding prices in general, like other toy lines they seem to go in waves. I've seen prices rise and fall, though right now complete figure prices are actually relatively low compared to when I picked up collecting again in 2011. LB prices seem to be relatively static for the most part.
