Both Akia and Sithwizard observed the amount of bootlegs... I guess I'm wondering what makes a good bootleg and I thought it might make for an interesting discussion. 

 

Is it cool because it's based on your favorite figure?  Or is it that might be a legit figure that is now in a color that never existed until now?

 

Or maybe it's unique because it's like a smaller version of a beloved figure (kinda like those "charm muscle figures" that I brought up on a different thread).

 

Even when I was a child and getting Muscle-esque figure at the local Jerry's diner (anyone been to Jeffersonville Indiana?), I always had the feeling that even though I couldn't resist putting my quarters in the machine - I felt as though I was going to get something inferior.  Which of course I did.

 

So what are your thoughts on bootlegs now in hindsight LRGers?

For me it's the quality of the bootleg. The lot you mention has quite a few higher quality looking boots. Most of them don't look like cheap soft rubber, molded with no detail..... They look pretty nice. Well, as far as the picture quality lets them- haha.

I can't go past a quarter machine without breaking my neck. I do feel like a child asking my wife for some quarters every time hahaha.

Bootlegs are an interesting breed. I buy them when they are hilariously BAD, but also if they are cool.

The cool thing is they could have come from anywhere, made by anyone and I guess would therefore be more unique in the fact that not many people would have the exact same sculpt and colour and also it being made in the same place.

the best ones are the bad ones though haha

Anything Behemoth is good with me. My other tastes are peculiar. Squirrels, and childhood toys. And things that just look cool to me.

My favourite bootlegs are for things that I love. I love the really bad ones, personally.

 I like all boot legs, i used to hold them to a lower standard , and now. after Acquiring  the regulars of just about everything line ever. the boots are more unique. for me anyway. i almost Cherish them . in a way that only a few people can understand.  i always got a sepcial place in my collection for them . sometimes i pretend that they are the zombies. and the regular guys are heros. and they always get beatdown.

For me, a good bootleg is a combination of a couple of things that have been said. It has to be good quality (I hate when my toys break because I sneezed in their direction lol), and it has to be similar to the things that I love. However, really bad bootlegs can be fun too.

I like obscure or weird bootlegs. Mixing inanimate objects or animals/monsters with humans are my favorite.

Also horrible executed or bad combos are great as well

Baloon squirrel? Like tying a squirrel to a balloon and letting him float off? Trust me, they don't like that too much...

Yes - it's JUST like the movie UP... but with SQUIRRELS instead of houses.

As for bootlegs, the main thing I look at, are the seams. If they did a good job of hiding where they cut the figure up (if they did), I am probably enjoying the work. If it's just a straight bootleg, I am way less interested.
