Showcase #16: Deka Plastic/Rubber Hybrids
These are still a mystery to me and my introduction came when I got my first one in a lot (Planet Man). They are between the size of a vintage Kinkeshi and a Deka (circa 4 cm). Released by BANDAI in 1984/1985.
Months ago I made a google search and bumped into an old LRG topic that talked about just one of the figures (Planet Man actually).
Back then they were also somewhat of a “mystery”.
Often they get mistaken for the Kinnikuman Big line (they are pretty similar and consist of what I think are 19 figures total spread through 3 parts).
Unknown figures get mistaken for Fist of The North Star characters which also had a similar release of hybrid plastic/rubber Deka (approximately the same size too).
UofM article by Professor Terry from September 2014 about these figures:

I also found this Japanese link:

The user has not made an update for quite some time but using google translate I was able to find out that he knew as much as I did (hahaha):
“This series is a treat which corresponds to tokka as it says now, it is a pattern that was sold in a box, such as a supermarket, a candy store, a toy shop, etc.
Everything has BANDAI and a stamp.
Although the lineup is not certain, I think that it is probably about tag editing, devil superstitious, devil knight edition, throne competition story.
We expect to be about 30 kinds.
For now, I will only upload items I have.
If there is information etc., thank you”.
He had 21 documented in his checklist but thought the series had about 30 and Professor Terry has 20 of them in his collection.
I unfortunately only have 12 in my collection but would love to know if there’s a complete checklist online and if anyone here at LRG has any more of these figures (also who is willing to sell or trade for what I don’t own).
I have seen a Big The Budo boxed at Mandarake online (selling for like $120!).
I don’t bump into these too often in the wild and would love to add more to my collection.
Also if anyone knows the correct name of the line please let me know! It’s the one line I have not seen covered in Mandarake’s REX magazine.
