Personally,
I don't think he is that rare until it is the last one you are looking for to complete a total flesh set. At that point I think any 5-10 figures keeping you from completing a flesh set become very rare for an individual.

Maybe I am wrong, that is just my opinion,

Seriously. I got through thousands of MUSCLEs and 195, 189, 68 and a couple others are as hard, if not harder to get than Satan Cross.

Now Satan Cross is the most popular, and you could easily get $40-$90 for one, but you'll never get more than $5 for a #195. Supply and demand.

In flesh that is.

Colors is a whole different story.

Colored figures were made in different quantities then the flesh ones, so while a flesh #195 is hard to find, compared to the other MUSCLEs, a purple #195 is relatively easy to get a hold of.

I know you guys know your stuff, however, I too have had tons and tons of MUSCLES. In the past I sold them on Ebay everytime I got them in huge quantities. I never collected them after having gotten a huge collection in 1993 and then getting rid of them in less than 6 months for some quick $$$. I will say this: I have had multiples upon multiples of #195, #189, & #68, I have never had a Satan Cross until Alex hooked me up!!!

By the way ALex, I have your 2 clears done and I will have your 2 gitd green done soon, not to mention that surprize for being soooooooo patient.

Back to the topic. Also, not to mention since I started collecting again just this winter, I have #195 and #189 in flesh again (don't have #68 yet) and still the only SC I have gotten was Alex's!!!

They are right about the colors though, I have had tons and tons of all the semi tuff characters. Like probably 1:4 ratio, flesh:color.

I think the reason 195 is soo rare is because of its unique playabity atributes. Also since it is a spinny top, chances are they all under someones refridgerator or oven because when someone was little, they spun him under there by accident. I see taht mold as an accidental misplaced toy. Also, some peopel just find that one cool and might just keep it because of what it is or have it with a dredil collection.
Hey those are my wild guesses.

#195 makes a great top and it has individual replay value.

You could always take him for a spin.

ok ok that was bad e+

It is hard to say what figures are harder to get then others. I thought #133 flesh was rare. I had only recived one in all the lots I ever bought.

I really can’t imagine that he is “rare”, but there could be less of them. These were mass produced toys, but I think of it like Star Wars figures. Some figures are insanely easy to get (Stormtroopers, Gen. Madine, Hoth Rebel Troopers, etc.), some are slightly harder to get (Royal Guards, TIE pilots, Ewoks, etc.), and some are really hard to get (Imperial Gunners, Imperial Dignitaries, Barada, etc.). But the fact remains that they are all out there in fairly high quantities, but some will just take a little more time to find.

This is probably the case with #195, he’s not rare. But from a production standpoint a slightly lower number of figures were made.

#195's "rarity" is mainly attributable to collector demand. He's one of the most sought-after MUSCLEs now because, as mentioned before, he's so unique in his play value.

Just as Johnny said, it's supply and demand. More people perceive that #195 is rare and cool, so more people want one. Also, the people who own multiple #195s aren't willing to part with them. Even though the figure was most likely produced in the same (or greater) quantity as many other MUSCLEs, there's less of #195 in circulation and a greater demand for him... and he's perceived as rare.

But the perceived rarity of certain MUSCLEs really depends on the "luck" of each collector. For example, I found multiple #195s in various colors, but I NEVER found a Satan Cross until relatively recently. Personally, I found #196 to be the hardest MUSCLE to find.

You don't hear anything about #196's rarity. Why? Because he's the Mekaneck of MUSCLEs, and nobody cares about him.

Veers is right... #195 is a mass-produced toy, so he's not rare. No mass-production toy is truly rare... we just think it is...

There is no spoon!

Personally, I found #196 to be the hardest MUSCLE to find.

Yup, he is always one of the ones I am out of in flesh. A few others include:

#7 Puyo Puyo
#57 Kinnikuman Great
#61 Kinnikuman (undies only)
#84 Cobra Satan
#126 Hulkster
#133 Pirate guy
#136 Ogre
#138 Personal Man (computer)

A few others also.

Satan Cross may be in less quantities, but he is always noticed on eBay. Whereas no one looks for these figures in every lot. But from the tons that have come through my doors, these seem to be the ones that I am always out of. I have b=never had large quantities of any of the above figures, and most, never more than one at a time, whereas, I have had 3-4 Satan Crosses at once before.

I remember I had a #195 when I was a little kid and I hated him. The thing has no arms and legs so how was I going to have him wrestle the others? I think most kids used 195 for 'experiments' with fire, water, and the 4th of July. Now that I think about it I had all the crappy ones when I was a kid. All the sunshine forms. I could've built a house with them but thats about it.
