Monster in my Pocket...in Toyfare!

I wrote a SHORT retro feature on MIMP that's going to appear in the latest issue of Toyfare, which I believe hits stands this week. I say SHORT because this is not a full review like by BB/LB stuff that ran in Lee's Toy Review in 2006. This is a very basic history about the line, along with a few examples from my collection. I also did an interview with Joe Morrison, one of the creators of MIMP and someone who has his hands in the NEW MIMP line, and so hopefully, you'll learn something from that interview.
I know you LRG guys are going to be my best/worst critics on this, so keep in mind, this is a mini miracle to even get MIMP in print. So I hope you enjoy the nostaliga trip, and like my other Retro Features, it might help bring some old fans out of the woodwork!

Also Joe Morrison one of the creators of mimp - would it be possible to ask him some questions via email or place these qions somewhere for him to answer?
For example i would be interested to know out of series 1-3 how many were made in all the different colours (standard, neon and premiums).
Many thanks

I doubt he would remember, or have ever known, anything that specific, but I would be very interested to hear if he knows what, exactly, happened to series 3, i.e. why it never fully came out.

Yeah, he just created the line, BUT he does talk about some of the distribution of the line in my interview with him. While it might not explain why Series 3 is so freakin' rare, it might give you insight as to what was going on with him and Matchbox and why the distribution was the way it was.

...having the very beneficial side effect of reducing the price and/or getting the more extreme buyers to exhaust their funds early, allowing for a temporary price drop afterward.

I picked up a copy today (2 actually) but I can't seem to find any MIMP articles in it anywhere. It's the March 2010 one, #151. Did I get the wrong one?
You picked up the wrong one. It's #152.

Toyfare review are always short! I like the magazine, but it's rare the pass the snippet anecdote.
It's fun to see vintage toy featured in print do.

Is a little unclear toward the end.

Sounds like the discussion got to the most recent release, which was placed on the back burner for a while, and now they are planning on continuing. So your possibly right, a U.S. launch of the new stuff could be possible, or they are going more retro but with better sculpting.
Is a little unclear toward the end.
You could ask the writer, who is a member of this board, who is also me.
Keep in mind, the general toy buying public is not as well versed in MIMP as you guys, so I had to keep the discussion fairly simple and straightforward. The G2 stuff hasn't seen wide release in America, but that's the "new line" he's hoping to launch soon here in the states. I'm sorry if I ended up confusing anyone!
The hope is that if more people rediscover the line and get interested through an article like this (as far as I know, the ONLY recent magazine article dedicated solely to MIMP), then there's a greater interest AND a better chance that something like that could actually happen!

Drat! I had my hopes up in anticipation of a completely new and re-sculpted line of MIMP figures.
Furthermore, the article makes it sound as though my ultra-rare G2 "Action Accessory" will no longer be ultra-rare.
That would be just like how the Zombie, Mummy, and Grim Reaper figures were "exclusives" in the British release - but then were included in normal boxed-sets in Australia's Series-2 release.
Attention toy manufacturers: please don't trick me into buying "exclusive" figures, and then later release them as common figures.
If the line takes off, you could very well end up with new stuff! Releasing this stuff to the American market COULD make it happen. It's also possible the figures will vary in paint applications.
And by the way, if rereleasing exclusive MIMP stuff ticks you off, it's a good thing you haven't been collecting Star Wars stuff for the last 10 years or so. Sheesh. I can't tell you how many items that were released as "exclusives" saw wide release only a couple of years later!

My daughter collected what was known as the Australian series 1 of MIMP from MEG. Anyway after checking the stores we were buying series 1 from, we found that for whatever reason, they weren't going to be stocking series 2.
My daughter asked me to see if I could get in contact with the company at all and ask 'em what was up.
This is my email to Barbara Lewis, rep for MEG, as well as her reply:
MY MESSAGE: Hi, I'm an Australian Monster In My Pocket collector trying to track down what is known as series 2 over here. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Everywhere I look they say the line has been discontinued, is this true ?
I'm after any stores, (online or otherwise), that stock MIMP series two, (or the American/UK series).
Thanks very much for your time.
REPLY: Hi,
Thanks for being a Monster In My Pocket fan. The Monster In My Pocket brand is currently “on hiatus” as we develop new features for future product, so you won’t be able to find Series 2 anywhere right now.
It’s possible that new product will be out in late 2011, but that’s the earliest.
Best regards,
Barbara Lewis
