SO you can actually design your own figure via this app - and then order figures and other mercy based on your own design.  Very cool!

Yeah - totally.  It's all cyclical I guess.  I never got into Skylanders, but I have a lot of respect for what they did in a relatively short time.

Now it's time for them to evolve or die.  And I think this is an attempt to evolve... but I doubt it will save the franchise.

It wont, unless they put the chip in the base that allows it to work in game. That would be an quick way to get new players.

According to the article attached, for $50 USD your character is playable in game.

But that's way too high for your average gamer. Especially considering basic figures start at something like $10 USD.

ooh. didnt see that part. if it was cheaper, it would definitely work. this could be just a nail in the coffin.

With such a high price tag - they are definitely appealing to a very niche audience.  Seems like a rather eccentric strategy.

They'll definitely sell some. The die-hard Skylanders peeps out there will be buying one, for sure. But your average consumer won't be bothered to. You can almost buy an entirely separate game for that price! (Or on PC, like 50 games.)
