Back in the late 80s or so, I remember seeing these little muscle-sized figures. They were the same height but fatter, softer, and painted. They came in different themes: karate men, ninjas, wrestlers (based on real wrestlers but not licensed) and I think there was also pirates. The packaging I remember was similar to the MUSCLE 28-packs, long but with only about 10 or 12 figures in each. There may have also been carded two or four packs, I can't remember for sure. My brother has a pack of these called "City Warriors" with Street Fighter type characters in it. I remember seeing these usually in grocery stores more than anywhere else. Anyone remember these and what they were called?

Oh man! I know exactly what you are talking about! I am drawing a total blank on what they were called. But I do remember seeing them in dollar stores.

i remember a friend having a bunch of guys that sound like those, when i was a kid. they were slightly super deformed, and there were military guys, space guys, comic book rip-off guys, pirates, ninjas, and all sorts of other themes.
i remeber having a few of the 'real wrestler' musclemen rip-offs. i had eddie gilbert, and dusty rhodes, and i believe one of the von erichs.
why do they not really make 1.5-2" figures as much anymore?
they kick so much arse!

I remember seeing them in dollar stores too. In fact I think that's where my brother got the set he still has, because I remember when he got them it was a "Hey, remember these?" purchase, a few years after they'd stopped showing up anywhere else. I'll try to post a picture tonight (I don't know why I didn't think to do that to begin with.)

Okay, here they are. The picture's no masterpiece but hopefully it's clear enough. And hopefully it's there at all, this is the first file I've posted...

I am not too sure, but those MAYBE unautorized versions of Street Fighter characters... I mean, City Warriors... come on...
Does anyone remember 2 years ago when they had little multi figure packs of Mosters Inc. characters? I am not sure if they are MUSCLE sized, but they wee 3 in a pack, and it cost like 2 bucks.... I have a few, I'll put them side by side later, when I get home...

Yeah, that set is definately Street Fighter themed. But there were several other themed sets, and I was wondering if the line as a whole had a name. Most likely not, they were probably just generic toys, but I figured it's worth a shot to try and find out.

I checked the g2 MUSCLES next to some Monsters Inc figs... they are slightly shorter, but much wider, especially the Newsmonster and the big armed guy with a whole bunch of eye balls, and nothing else for a face.
i wish I had got more sets of these, though....
