Showcase #46: Kinnikusutensu Competition Hen Kinkeshi Part 1 (1991)
Like most things in my collection (Kinnikuman or Kinkeshi wise); I did not plan on collecting the 1991 Competition Hen Kinkeshi this soon. However once I saw the prices of the Kinkeshi in person while in Japan I thought it was best to take advantage and just start my collection. Often you find single figures at relatively fair prices but once you take middle men/proxy costs and international shipping into consideration...well the figure ends up being more money than I intended to pay.
The series had 36 sculpts total and 3 parts (180 if you count all the color sculpts or 60 sculpts per part). Released in the classic five colors: Flesh, Green, Red, Blue & Yellow and the material is more robust and less "bendy & rubbery" material. Probably because they were released by Banpresto and the consistency are more like the Battle Collection releases or the Ramenman keshigomu releases. I have not witnessed any melting or chemical reaction with these if kept together or even mixed with other colors of the same line.
What I am not sure about is the way this series was released ( in capsules?) because some sculpts made their way into the three pack prepackaged Banpresto releases of the classic vintage line (which were also made from a stronger material). What makes things even more confusing was that the Part 2 sculpts were also re-released in 1999? I recently acquired an opened pack with Part 2 sculpts and the insert inside had some of the 1991 sculpts pictured along with those releases (the insert itself on the inside is dated 1999).
I attached a picture of the insert here and the packaging...
Part 1: I have 45 sculpts total from the 60
