The last post I made for this topic thread was April 20, 2018! Today is August 8, 2020!!!

I had my entire vintage Kinkeshi collection in storage for more than a year, it has been great opening those boxes and doing inventory again!

I have one complete vintage Part 1-Part 30 418 set and I am sorting through my inventory to see if I have a second one!

After digging up my Kinkeshi from storage, I settled on this display for my complete vintage 418 Kinkeshi set (in the past I used the IKEA Detolfs)

I am about 30 something Kinkeshi shy from a complete vintage 418 Flesh set.

Those risers aren't plastic, are they? Vintage Kinkeshi have a habit of melting hard plastic through prolonged contact.

Funny you mentioned that and thank you for looking out! inadvertentdly I have been doing an experiment since 2016 roundabout in regards to the infamous „Keshi melting“.

Of course when buying lots from yahoojapan or Mandarake, Kinkeshi melting was apparent/occured etc. (they just dump lots together in those giant plastic bags).

Luckily the Kinkeshi themselves for the most part don’t get any damage but what they come in contact i.e plastic surfaces. I was laways curious about that and what amount of prolonged time caused this and if air was a factor (meaning if the Kinkeshi had air to breathe would it even occur).

I found once I cleaned the Kinkeshi that had a melting reaction, the chemical reaction didn’t occur for a second time (Red and Yellow might be the exception, those will stain/get stained and melt whatever they come in contact with).

Now granted in comparison to the old LRG guard I am a "newbie" to Kinkeshi collecting as I have only been collecting them since 2016.

I was surprised how many great sculpts I got for significantly less because they had melting and the owners just didnt bother cleaning them (which is a pain but you can get the gunk off). So I enjoyed that aspect of rescuing Kinkeshi.

I put an experiment batch of Kinkeshi together again inside a ziploc bag after I cleaned of the melting residue and some Ziploc bags had been sealed for at least 2 years and nothing happened.

So am not sure if that is an initial reaction that can occur again later or that 2 years has not been a long enough time for the reaction to occur etc.

Of course I always separate them by color anyway (when putting them away or storage) and if they are mixed together, they are not done so for very long.

In general I keep/kept Kinkeshi somewhat in an open space and they get/got fresh air and luckily the melting has not occurred yet (even when different colors touch one another).

I have the Colosseum and the kinkeshi on display have not melted anything yet (although I do keep the yellow kinkeshi away from the red plastic as that for sure causes a reaction)

But just to be safe the sole of the feet of the Kinkeshi in my display have putty and they get some air.

I want to leave them there for a year and see what happens (the displays are salt and pepper storage steps that are pretty economical so it would not be a big loss if anything happened to them).
