So here's my guy!

As Jimmy and Zectron have mentioned, we were invited into this a few years ago.

The general theme was "kind of kaiju" to my understanding. What I like best about kaiju is the poopy era, when it was skinny guys in suits that don't fit, and couldn't move well in them. i like the fact that a new bad guy comes out every week with some totally abstract design. Shogunasty is made to look like a guy wearing a box suit. The arms stick out because the guy inside the "costume" wouldn't have had the range of motion to pull another pose.

I knew I couldn't match the other guys for neatness, so I just went punk rock with it.

Mostly sculpted with apoxy, with real rocks for the teeth/ entrance.

I can't find pics of the original sculpt, but this one's had the tiles re-sculpted since the wax stage, unchanged except for that.

Here's the backstory!

Hatano Hideharu, 1541 – June 25, 1579, was head of the Hatano clan, and successfully maintained independance against the impossible Might of Oda Nobunaga. For three years he and his clan hindered Nobunaga's march to Kyoto at Yagami Castle until he offered Nobunaga surrender, and was dishonorably executed.

His enraged spirit maintained itself in the stones of Yagami Castle, causing it to trmor, and deteriorate at a rapid speed. A thick, horrible electricity filled the halls of the castle, making it inhabitable. A proud caretaker remained for several decades alone, until the sound of breathing, living flesh in the walls became too terrible to take.

A year later, the castle was almost complete gone. Vanished. Old wives said they'd seen it slowly thundering through the forset, to the sea. No one believed them until now.

Hatano has returned.

Stone, flesh, muscle, monster, and cannons are destroying the best forces of the East Asian Experimental Mutagen Defence Force. Cannonballs rip through our cities and our best giantified martial artists are unable to offer any notable resistance.

What we can offer him to make him stop, we do not know. We must defeat him.

Japan besseches you, DIE! SHOGUNASTY!!!

Love the story man.

The sculpt has such a cool gritty vibe to it as well. I would buy this thing even if i didn't know you.

Here's a shot of the brass version from the Unbox instagram.

There was no poopy era, dang it! >-<

I see what direction you came from though, and it ultimately works. It's more of a, say, Super Sentai villain than the kind of thing you'd find in Ultraman or Godzilla. You had it right on with the kind of poorly-articulated costume thanks to someone in the effects department going hog-wild with his concept, basically. I dig it! I also got a nice chuckle out of the elaborate backstory/art and the hints of a wider, equally ridiculous universe where Japan employs jetpacks, missile launchers and growth formulas to combat its monster problem.

Thanks mate! Definitely inspired by the Shogun Megazord + a lot of Gwar!

Thanks Bryan. Punk was the desired vibe. Always a little risky counting on people feeling it but glad you did :)

Thanks! Yeah, I really wanted it to be stupid but not completely lacking cool.

Nice snap man. I always love yours and Mario's shots.
