First I sanded it down and Dremeled off the sleeves and most of the hair. Then I used Sculpey to extend the front button flap and collars, and add the puffy pirate sleeves, signature hair, sash and mouth. I made the nose more cartoonish and the eyebrows more prominent. Also, I cut off the sword, drilled holes in the hands so he can hold objects, then cut off the pinkies for that three-fingered cartoon accuracy. The sword was some G.I. Joe knockoff machete with the handle shaved down. The pupils are done in Uni-Ball ink, and for the teeth I tried using a ballpoint. It may not have been the wisest choice, but it's good enough. Because it was my first attempt and I didn't want to melt the figure, the Sculpey was cured with a hot hair dryer, although now I use the toaster oven.
This was done in August, but I didn't get around to painting it until January.
