The pine Hobgoblin is also a Nabisco cereal premium.

I wonder if all of the cereal premiums also got reused for the cassette as bonuses? Only ever seen that werewolf pic floating around forever, then the orange Hobgoblin that showed up recently.

As you mentioned the aforementioned Orange Hydra and the Pine Green T.Rex, you failed to mention the blue Jotun Troll that was sold from a seller on ebay that infrequently show up sellin these three figures as a group or separatly. There is a thread discussing this very point. Where did these come from. I don't think to this day no one is none the wiser. But, the closest idea if I remember rightly that they were possibly to be used as a freebie included with a confection or cereal of some kind or included with a comic.... someone may correct me though.... hope this helps some ;)

Also not in the U.K I think only in U.S

Fair do's but my point is still valid based on what I mentioned about that they have been discussed before when the seller was flogging them on ebay Baltan

Yeah, I was there both times and bought some the first time. Yours is the first I've heard of anybody mentioning a specific promotion behind them. The seller's only vague advice on their origin suggested they were arcade prizes, the kind you'd receive in exchange for tickets. Even if that's the case, I think it's more likely that's not their original source, and perhaps they were leftovers from the "real" promotion, whatever it was. That, or perhaps Matchbox thought marketing MIMP through arcades as well as stores was a viable avenue?

EDIT: Found the seller's quote in the thread from the second round of sales!

I asked the seller if they knew the source of the figures? If they were in single packs,
boardgame or from cereal.

This is their reply (the irony is that they mention my website):

"From what I found out, and I had to do a lot of research, these monsters were re-releases
of the series 1 monsters, they were called premium monsters - here's one source
http://www.monsterco.../1-premium.html So, they are series 1 monsters in series
2 colors. I did some more research and found out that they're not the cereal box prize monsters,
and I'm not sure if they were offered in a single pack. It's a little confusing because this site
http://monsterinmypo...m/wiki/Series_1 lists these colors as premium colors that
came with the board game, but when I looked at the board game pieces, these monsters weren't
there. I got these from a guy who used to own an arcade on the jersey shore. He said that he
would give them away as prizes, so who knows if there were a seperate series of monsters for
situations like that. I really don't know, but I hope that this answers your question. =) "

The colour that come with Pink Kraken and Orange Triton is the rarest as that group is rarer than the other one...
But unfortunately now I don't remember which one is... :fool:

Yes. For some reason, trumanshower hasn't updated the pine Hobgoblin entry. Great Beast, Griffin, Windigo, Hobgoblin, Werewolf, and Cockatrice were all S1 Nabisco premiums, two different colors for each.

This will not help much (at all) but I am pretty sure pink The Beast came in UK cereal. When I rediscovered my stash of MIMPS I had 3 of them (one of which had been disfigured though!!). I didn't have many duplicate colours apart from this one and certainly not 3, so makes me think this must have come from some form of promotion where I got them free, and cereal would have been the way I got them.

Frosties or Rice Crispies are my guess as they are what I mainly had back then, but I know you don't want guesses just cold hard fact! This has got me interested so I will see if there is anything online.

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

thanks for the infos, each guess could be a good way to search ! I'm really surprise we don't know the origin of certain easy-to-find figures like pine green hunchback , skeleton and spring healed jack, orange ghoul, cyan mad scientist and mummy etc...

In france i'm 99% sure no premiums S1 were available, the very few i've found in flea markets (orange hobgoblin, pine green windigo and t-rex, cyan cyclop) probably came from foreign countries.
