Recommendation/Suggestions for collecting

Since I finished collecting the original 418 vintage Kinkeshi line and almost reaching the 1,500 mark on a master set of the same Kinkeshi line, I am now wondering about other properties or other lakes to jump into (haha)

I kinda have a void...

I basically try to stick to one property and my collecting history is not very long and it basically went like this:

1-Comic Books (since moving to Germany in 2008 I pretty much left my entire collection in Chicago and my Dads old apartment got flooded and unfortunately I lost my collection but I managed to take a couple of favorite paperbacks with me before that happened)

2-Pro Wrestling (basically Apter magazines, toys, WWF/WWE Magazines etc but like my comic book collection it's gone besides a couple of old RAW/WWE Magazines I took with me as momentos but really once I started wrestling in 2003 I stopped collecting anything wrestling related besides Kinnikuman now and some Japanese Pro Wrestling Sofubis)

3-MOTU (I sold my collection to finance a trip to Japan way back when and I kick myself for not knowing what I know now about Kinkeshi but that first trip started my love for Kinnikuman and Kinkeshi!)

Finally Kinkeshi/MUSCLE!!!

But I wanted some suggestions, I have been dabbling in Sofubi for about 2 years now but not hardcore (only sticking to Kinnikuman and a couple of Japanes Pro Wrestling Sofubi).

I was thinking about starting to collect the following:

1-Creator/custom Keshigomu/Keshi sculpts (like what EricNilla does for example) or creator/custom creations in general.

2-Battle Beasts

3-Neclos

Any thoughts? I now more about #1 & #2 as I just started doing my research on Battle Beasts but I would love to hear/read some opinions!

I like to keep my collection clean and organized. I also like displaying it and being able to see it.

Of course am not giving up on MUSCLE or Kinkeshi but I am basically prepared to jump into another collecting lake parallel to that...I am just wondering how bad or deep that lake is :)

For me Battle beasts are the best. They display nice, the 1st three series are very manageable to collect and took a while to track down at reasonable prices. Seeing as you have the ability to go to Japan I imagine the Laser Beasts line isn't too terrible to collect. You basically get the immediate satisfaction of hunting down the first 75 and then have a life long journey into the Laser beasts (unless you have really deep pockets and are impatient).

The Sofubi game is awesome but it is so vast and intimidating, especially when you get into customs. I know there are a few guys that literally collect one sculpt in different colors and paints. I have looked into it and ended up with the conclusion that for myself it is only worth getting sofubi that are related to my favorite toy lines (much like you did with the Kinnikuman)

Neclos seems super cool. I have not yet explored collecting them. They seem pricey and I have too many other lines I am currently spending money on to be able to drop the money needed for that line.

I have been a huge fan of Battle Beasts since I was a kid (38 now) and when I restarted collecting about 8 years ago I had 25 or so from my childhood.  I now have 94 of the 112 figures.  Personally I sold off all my original weapons when I realized I would never pay for all the series 3 weapons that I was missing and now I only use non authentic weapons. I used the money to buy more high end Laser Beasts which tend to run about $80 to $200 each (without their weapon)

If I read your comments correctly you are the kind of person who like to complete a series so keep in mind that the high number Laser Beasts are getting harder and harder to find, especially complete figures.  As a fan of all things mini, they are definitely my personal favorites.

I have had some custom figures made for me and I am always looking for more playsets to use.

Good luck in your collecting

It seems like Kinkeshi, MUSCLE & Battle Beats go together like peas in a pod. Especially with LRG members and the Battle Beasts cross pollination.

The thing you mentioned about the long journey collecting the later figures is also attractive.

That's how I feel about about Kinkeshi; even after finishing collecting the entire 418 collection.

The four other colors keep me interested because I know of only 2 or 3 Japanese collectors that completed vintage Kinkeshi Master Sets (if any Americans or other collectors have completed a Master Set I would love to know!).

Sofubi: I think for now I will settle on buying Kinnikuman Sofubis when I see them on sale or if I get them under 50 EUR and not venture into other properties.

Score 1 for Battle Beasts!

Thank You for the feedback!

Thank You so much for your time and detailed feedback brother!

In terms of collecting, yes I am a total completist!...But I am not anal retentive about having everything mint or perfect (as was the case for you with the Battle Beasts weapons).

Personally unless one has the space I think it's also quite difficult to display collections with accessories/weapons.

I also like the idea of Battle Beast being "small" which means I can display them easily and use space to maximum affect.

I promised my wife I would only use two corners in our home for toys so thats super important! (haha)

Good point on the more time passes by, the more difficult to acquire or expensive certain properties get.

Certain properties are now over 30 years old! so time is not on our sides as collectors.

I felt the same way about Kinkeshi, it was perfect timing to start collecting them a couple of years ago (considering the ressurection of the line as of late in Japan). So the same could be said about Battle Beasts.

Score 2 for Battle Beasts!

Maybe you could stop collecting, save money, and attain enlightenment or something?  :D

*Quietly and hypocritically buys more himself*  Nevermind me!

Well to make recommendations....

I'm currently sticking to Kinnikuman/MUSCLE with some of the closest outliers.   There's Cosmix and Exogini versions with their wild colors.

Some of Super 7's are close enough ("The Worst" and Street Fighter being their two best series).

I don't like the Ultimate Muscle (US and some other countries line) as much with their bigger heads and smaller bodies, but some of them are awesome such as various versions of Check Mate.   They're also the easiest to get full color painted figures with every package having two.   I don't have any Japanese Kinnikuman Nisei.  It's a smaller amount of different characters and they're generally less interesting and creative compared to regular Kinnikuman.   Very high detailed quality figures though.

SOME customs that are really MUSCLE-like or even use parts of MUSCLEs are great but expensive for each figure.
There's Ericnilla's.
Don't know if Tommy the Tanker is still available from U of Muscle.  Store looks functional but I think a recent update said it's not.
And apparently the guy that makes M.U.S.K.L.E.S. is currently selling a bunch of his individually in packages on ebay to make some money for paying medical costs.   Check all his items as only searching for M.U.S.C.L.E. with a C works and some of his figures are called something else.
I quick bought a figure of his with six arms and a spinning three-faced head and a screaming geronimo with a sword.   A couple of Sneagator claw giving the middle finger were both sold.   Wilson's pretty funny but I already have the actual Wilson volleyball pictured on the packaging of one.   Funny story, I went to get a plain white volleyball from a sporting goods store intending to paint it as the Wilson ball a couple years ago.   No balls were out on display so the clerk goes and gets two from the back and one of them was the Wilson (official movie merch).

October Toys such as OMFG are awesome.   They're like Muscle consistency but their spirit tends to range from MUSCLE to Monster in my Pocket to Garbage Pail Kids and they are usually somewhat bigger than either.  Puke Knight's puke is definitely very GPK.

There's GPK minkins.   They're like MiMP material but half the size with some full colored ones.   Found a 4-pack in a dollar store couple years ago and got five 2-packs on Amazon few months ago.

MiMP and Battle Beasts are awesome but I'm not working on expanding my old collections.

Got some Cuties to photograph in compromising situations for some people's chuckles and to others' chagrin, but they're mostly taller than MUSCLE and more rigid plastic.

Really don't care for any Ugglies Pet Shop and only like a few of Grossery Gang, but at least they come in some cool cans.   I recommend just getting one 2 pack and one 6 pack for the cans.  Other things by Moose Toys look really cool though.

These are more cars than LRG's - but I feel like the line fits nicely with any LRG collection :  MONSTER 500.  Great line of monster themed cars similar to old Rat Fink illustrations from yesteryear.

They aren't too difficult to find and they look pretty on a shelf!

You know the only time I was ever into cars was when McDonalds had that promotion along with Barbie (they offered a "Boy" & "Girl" Happy Meal option). I collected them but then they ended up being given away when I was a kid to friends.
