Plastic...I'm curious as to why with all the stamps you have...that you have to pay any postage at all?
Your packages show up with 11 stamps on it but it still shows you paid 10 cents...couldn't you just throw on another stamp?

Thats because he doesn't calculate the weight of the 50 stamps he puts on the package. So the extra weight ends up costing him 10 cents

Did First Class packages and Priority Mail go up? I couldn't quickly tell from their spreadsheet.

Cloning is correct... I don't know exactly how much it's going to be so I just stamp according to my best estimation.  There are exceptions of course, like with some of the smaller packages (at least until this recent price hike) I usually know what it's going to be.

The other thing is, the postmen and women (with good reason), look at all the stamps with a skeptics eye at times.  Manually going through the post office - gives their stamp (no pun intended) of approval having counted the postage etc.  I always feel more confident about the package having gone through the manual process as opposed to just dropping the package into a box or doing it myself at a machine.  I had a couple bad experiences when I first started using stamps where I miscounted the postage after just dropping it into the box.  And thus some unhappy folks on the receiving end.  This ensures that never happening.

Lastly, I send a lot of things like Media Mail and other categories of mail that you actually need to go through the line for.

So making the short answer a long one, Cloning's reason is the primary one, but it's also a combination of everything else too.
