Pokemon Cards

Treasure or Toilet Paper?

Best Answer fisheye , 14 July 2016 - 01:47 PM

I'm pretty sure just TCG cards are worth anything really. I remember a first edition Charizard being the most sought after card back in the day. I have a selective collection of TCG cards myself. But I'm pretty sure mine would only be worth maybe 25 cents to $1 each. Still cool to have and look at.

So, I know diddly squint about a lot of things, and Pokemon is way up on that list.
I ended up getting a box of cards in with a bunch of stuff that I picked up at a yard sale.
What I was wondering if any of you fine gentlemen could tell me is.
Are any Pokemon cards really worth anything?
Are there only a select few that are sought after?
Should I just use these to start campfires?
Looking on Ebay only made my head hurt, and didn't really help.

I didn't take pictures of individual cards (although I would if someone was seriously interested in them), so here are some pics.

A bunch of yellow cards that appear to be part of a game.

Some really shiny Topps Chrome cards.

Some colorful cards, a few of these are shiny as well.

Three, pogs? And, a wigglytuff? WTF.
[attachment=94314:20160714_134855.jpg]

And this is the box that caused all the trouble.

Any input would be mucho appreciated, fellas.

Look for star symbols in the corners and of course the holos.

That box looks like one of the first ones. That in itself might be worth something to the right person.

Given the influx of people with the release of pokemon go, you have a decent chance of selling them on ebay.

All that being said, I've been removed from the cards for we'll over a decade so I couldn't give you a good idea of prices.

As stated above the original charizard fetches a princely sum. (Or at least used to.)

You can check trollandtoad.com , they have a pretty accurate value of each card since they specialize on selling cards. Usually only the holographic cards have a certain value (most of the time) and prices would range a lot depending on if they're still playable inside the decks or not. Other than that regular commons are very cheap. Hope this info helps!

I've been collecting Pokemon cards since the original series and have a decent idea on values. The most valuable are base set cards and 1st Edition, especially when holographic. Some of the more recent ones are worth something too, but the money is in the older ones.

The "pogs" are coins associated with the TCG, so they're also good to hang onto.

As already stated the TCG cards are the ones with potential value and need the harder look.
