I've only heard the phrase "Gold Bond Mafia" to refer to a pro wrestling stable that included CM Punk, Colt Cabana, Chris Hero, and others.
But I'm going to go ahead and assume you're referring to the use of Gold Bond on "the boys" as a means of creating some faux air-conditioning in the pants. In which case, I'm most definitely a member.

IF he is referring to option B, I sure as hell am a member as well. In fact, I'm utilizing my membership card right now, if you catch my drift. Moving in this weather sucks hard...I am dying here. Had to take an internet break.

In HS we'd dare each other to put Tiger Balm on our testicles. Tiger Balm Tribe. I had seen in an interview that Angelo Moore of Fishbone would do it just before taking the stage. Same thing I guess you guys are talking about. It's all about the menthol.

Haha, the interesting part of the whole deal, is finding out who is aware of the deal versus who isn't. It's odd how some people see to be aware of it, like it's ubiquitous, and others have no idea about it. I learned about it when I was doing amateur wrestling. We used to do all kinds of bizarre shit to amuse ourselves while waiting in the queue at tournaments.

I didn't know you were an amateur wrestler! Cool! How long?

Oh, from the age of seven through high school. I went to a community college that didn't have a wrestling team, and started doing sambo in high school, so I just transitioned fully over to that/mma at that point.

You know now that I think about it, this had to be wrestling related. I think I got the idea from my friend Ronnie, and he amateur wrestled in the south east/eastern side of Missouri for several years as Venom. There was a lot of amateur wrestling in Fredericktown Mo. where I went to high school. I graduated with Bill Mueller, and he went on to the big times as Trevor Murdoch. Even had the WWF tag team title for awhile.

I mean, I have heard a lot of stories about pro wrestling. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some cross-pollination between amateur wrestlers and pro wrestlers, when conceptualizing the gimmick.

Oh no doubt; amateur or pro, they almost all started out at some sort of training gym. Bill went to Harley Race's training facility/gym, and Ronnie went to a local gym to train, but still it was with retired wrestlers and/or local amateurs, etc. Things like this are surely passed from generation to generation, gym to gym.

Hell yeah. The whole "Shake your can of Gold Bond like it's empty when newjacks as you for some, but tell them Icy/Hot does the same basic thing" is probably as ubiquitous in locker rooms.

Yeah... Haha, a lot of old timers shit on Larry Sharpe for making the business too easy to get into, but somehow don't have a problem with Buddy Rogers' involvement?

i used to drive by it every day...but I dont usually go down that way anymore...i actually think it may have moved a few towns down because of a fire or something....i never new it was a place where big name wrestlers came out of until I started getting back into 80s-90s wrestling a few years ago

Well, Nature Boy Buddy Rogers was actually the driving force behind opening it, to try to get his son in the wrestling business. When his son decided it wasn't for him, Rogers basically turned the school over to his right hand man, Larry Sharpe, because he just didn't give a shit anymore.
It's pretty cool that you are that close to that. You ever go inside?

I have never been inside but have wanted to check it out for a while now...their website says they have matches and shows there so maybe one day i'll grab a ticket...wrestling must be big in this area. I moved here 6 years ago and many people are into it. My wife is the one that pretty much got me back into watching the older stuff...though she likes The Rock and Mick Foley era!
