Anybody watch the first season of True Detective? The first season was awesome and I am looking forward to this season kicking off tonight. If you missed the first season I recommend watching it at some point but you should definitely get on board this season. The series is an anthology so you don't have to watch the first season to get down on the second. Airing again tonight at 9 Pacific on HBO.

First season was amazing. I'm a huge fan of Robert W. Chambers The King In Yellow and I thought the show did a great job of paying homage to his ideas. Definitely a huge Thomas Ligotti vibe (some would call it plagiarism, but I personally think its great) and some nods to Lovecraft. I'm a huge fan of anything of this type, crazy conspiracies and the like. The true story that influenced the show is pretty insane and disturbing though. I'm sure it's entirely intentional, but I found it funny that the premiere is on the summer solstice. I guess to play up the whole occult thing. Unfortunately I don't have HBO but I'll be starting an HBO Go account soon just for this show.

The first season of True Detective was amazing so I got really high expectations on the new season. Hopefully it won't disappoint. Really like the mysterious vibe and slow tempo in the first season.

I'm really looking forward to it - although I'm trying to temper my expectations as it's a completely different story.

But excited none the less!!

Interesting it is the solstice but I think that might be by coincidence. The first season aired on Sundays and this is the first Sunday since Game of Thrones ended. I hadn't heard of Nic Pizzolatto until this series but I definitely like his work and will follow anything he does in the future.

I agree that it will be difficult to live up to the expectations. Season one was fantastic. Mathew McConaughey did an incredible job with what I feel was a very complex character. To think each season is only 8 episodes too. A lot to live up to and story to develop in only 7 more episodes.
