recently I've been in a nasty divorce with my wife.and she claims I took my collection. when I left.as well as all my collections. but if you checky my collection .what would it be worth. ball park. even though that's not even a quarter of it. I should have documented more. but the judge wants me to get estimate street value of these little punks. so check it out. lmk . thanks guys. maybe I'll get back to collecting when I get my balls back . I gotta go threw all my pictures and get values off of them. the nes should be a blast . considering I had just about half of the games in,boxes .and I my photo bucket it well documented with them .

I guess she really didn't like my compulsive collecting. or well.

word to the wize document .get apraisial. maybe even insurence . .frowney face.

In my opinion, toys have no real value to the average person. They are advertisements for movies and cartoons to help sell tickets at the box office. They are to be disposed of when something new comes out. Without the internet it would be near impossible to sell a toy for any decent money. A Pawn shop will rarely see any value in old used toys, just because they will sit a long time compared to other stock. Sometimes toys become hot for a while and go up from their retail price but this rarely lasts very long.

You can go through the sold listings on ebay for comparatives so maybe that would work but essentially you have a box of toys which may or may not sell at a garage sale. Its not really worth a fortune at all, even if you spent that much getting the items.

Toys are really only valuable if you can sell in rare to find places. Is you wife trying to get back all the money that you've been 'wasting' on toys?

Take pics of your collection, and use them to create an eBay listing.

"Sell" me your entire collection, via ebay, for $100, then put the figs in "storage" for me. I will pick them up when I visit you. (Wink, wink!)

Print out a copy of the eBay listing, and receipt. Give it to your attorney.

Pay the ex her fifty bucks, and we will exchange positive feedback on ebay.

Keep your toys, and enjoy single life.

This is exactly what you do. They can't refute what they're worth if you sold them all for $100.

Let me check with my divorce attorney wife...yup, this is fraud.  Your entire collection, however, is not worth squat.  Unless you have some super-duper ultra rare item that has actual value, it is only worth what you can get.

Sounds like a nightmare bud.

Sorry to hear you've been afflicted with a scorned woman demon that wants to bleed you of what you have left that you actually give a shit about. Women can be so evil, I wish you well with that mess.

As soon as you dig her venomous claws out of you, get back on that collecting horse and send the she demon some Christmas cards with a pic of you and your buxom new girlfriend!

Good luck brother!

You fellas do realize this was said in jest, right?

There is no way I would have posted something like this to an open forum if I had thought that someone would seriously attempt it.

Toys are not worth anything.
There is no real way to gauge the value of something based on what you MIGHT get for it. They are only worth what someone would be willing to give for them, and that is dependent upon way too many variables to make any kind of accurate assumption.

My girlfriend says that you should bring up your wifes shoe and purse collection to the judge. Even if it is small. Each item is probably from $100-$400 retail. Each item in her make-up bag is up to $35 each.

While you're totally correct, she'll have to prove that he did fraud her.

Honestly? I hate people that are in it for the money like this. Isn't it bad enough with what is happening? Let each other take their own shit and fight over the house.

Well, this is the nature of divorce isn't it. Marriage is a joint enterprise, and therefore each party has a claim on the assets of the other. It's all very well saying that each should get to keep "their" own stuff, but what if one partner hasn't been able to acquire as much stuff as the other because they've stayed at home to run the household or raise children?

Our divorce laws are there for a good reason, and it does cut both ways. Who knows, maybe her shoes, jewellery and make up are worth more than his action figures. In the circumstances (of which, it must be borne in mind, we've only heard one side) it is not unreasonable that the value of any collections owned by either party is taken into consideration when calculating a final settlement.

Also, I can't be the only person who has NFI what we're supposed to be valuing here? I'm assuming there should be a link to images of a collection somewhere?

I'm not a lawyer- nor am I claiming to be one.  But I have a good mouthpiece myslelf, in court (don't ask)

IF you sold your collection to someone for $100- then that is just what it is- a $100 sale.  Period.  That's how much your collection was worth.  IF your "friend" decides own their own free will to sell it back to you later......Then that's their business.  IT's not fraud.

IF you had intended to sell it- only to buy it back- then yes- that IS fraudulent.   If someone decided to sell your collection back to you "because they didn't want it anymore, afterall" then that's NOT fraud.  You would have to get some burners and make the deal though hahahahaha.....emails, pm's, etc are traceable.

They would have to prove that you had intended to sell and purchase it back....And how the hell they could do that?  I don't know.  They MAY be able to, if you didn't cover ass good enough, but........

This ultimately sucks balls, dude.....I'm sad to hear of this from you.

I wish people weren't like this.  Spiteful?  I know you guys could just sign an agreement that you guys came up with- My parents did that..... Sucks she won't do that with ya, man.

All the best, brother.

I wish posts could self destruct, like Gadget's messages!!!

Thinking more about it though.........Donate the damn stuff.

Donate it to someone you trust.  Eff it, and be done.  They can't stop you from doing that.........get it back later.  Prove it.........Your (ex) wife would have to stalk you or the person you donated it to- to see if they give it back as a fraudulent action.  Hire a private eye and follow you guys around all year?  I doubt it.

Am I right?  Or wrong?

I'm guessing they would be capable of reading Internet fora.

The fatal flaw in an otherwise scintillating plan.

It is not as simple as selling something or even giving it away and that ends up being it's actual value. If that were the case people would do that with everything.

Oh you want half my house? Well I just sold it for 20 bucks so here's 10 for you.

Nope.

In most states if a divorce is not amicable there would be an independent asset evaluation. Or each party can have their own evaluation and meet in the middle of the estimates. Or if no one is willing to pay for that they can attempt to determine values on their own but that is horribly time consuming and difficult to deal with. The last thing you want to do is be seen as shady by the judge because they can sting you badly and lean everything in the other persons favor afterwards.

I'm suppose to come up with a detailed list of what I had. then my lawyer will have it appraised. and the judge will give me a judgment half of the appraisal. the judge already agreed to this. but I really just want my stuff. michigan is no fault state. everything split 50 50. and my wife hated my toys. I have no idea how to come up with,a list of what I had. I had so many lrg. can't even begin to rebuild my collection. so many were complete. all my battle beasts all 75 orginial weapons. top 12 laser beast. all my claws. class a'. I'm bumming . I'll end up with house . but my childhood is ruined. I put that girl threw nursing school
. she didn't have to work. then she steals my stuff. and stole my 7.3 diesel. this divorce is nearing the one year mark. I've paid my lawyer 5500 already. what a crappy year. hope ya'lls going better. stay weird my friends

Dammit, man. That is really terrible.

And also one of the many reasons that I will never get married or even live with anyone.
