Hi all- I figured I'd make a separate topic for this, so I don't clog up the other great custom/painting topics with me getting sidetracked. Largely because it's just me spitballing ideas and such.

I'm trying to think of other potentially cool color schemes for the Beasts (of both Battle and Laser variety, though BBs are much cheaper a choice). Either I can commission 'em (I love the Green Mountain stuff!) or paint some myself (like I did that zebra).

Some ideas I had:
Lion-
black body with Golden armor. Only later did I realize this was basically Goldar from the Power Rangers. But it'd probably look cool. Maybe red hair?
Octopus- Blue-Ringed Octopus. Look at these little guys!: https://en.wikipedia...-ringed_octopus

Snake- Coral Snake: https://en.wikipedia...iki/Coral_snake
Weasel- Spotted Skunk, a very cool, rarely-seen species: https://en.wikipedia...i/Spotted_skunk (I find the Weasel would be better for this than the actual Skunk, who lacks the "facial space" necessary to make this work)

Albino/White Animals- This is uncommon but still seen in nature, producing some great examples. Almost every Beast looks incredible in a stark white, as I've noticed. Potential animals include the Bison, Moose, Bat, Elephant & Kangaroo. Naturally there's a ton of "White Tigers" out there. Green Mountain David has sold some great "Snow Leopards".

Stuff I'm trying to think of:
The Reptiles: The Chameleon, Iguana & Leaping Lizard all have such great details on them, and can fit just about any color scheme. But there are so many potential ones I can't rest on any. The Chameleon in particular can have just about anything, in a variety of stripes or spots.

The Kraken: Either the Octopus or Cuttlefish might work. But... what kind of colors? See-through pink with splotches of a darker color? Standard pink? Octopus w/ Cuttlefish arms?
Rhino: One of my favorites as a kid- I used him and the Lion as my "Faction Commanders". Since the Lion gets an "upgraded" form above, I figured the Rhino should, too. But what color scheme? Maybe silver armor to contrast the lion's gold, but what colors look best with silver?

In fact, I'm thinking of various combinations of "metallic" colors with some Beasts, as if they all have some "metallic" upgrade form. So Jade, Ruby, Quartz, etc.

Great Ideas here, and thanks for the plug.  I actually revisited Power Rangers on netflix a few months ago, and considered doing that Goldar guy.  I think he would need a custom helmet too.  I am planning a "Down Under" set, and considered using the weasel for a Quoll which is a carnivorous marsupial with spots.  And the Quoll is similar enough to a weasel to not merit his own sculpt.  I like the idea of a clear pink Kraken too.  As of today, I have molds for both the Cuttlefish, and Octopus.

SWEEEEEEEEEEET!! The black/gold lion DOES look awesome! So glad :). The Coral Snake is eye-popping, too- "red touch black, friend of Jack; red touch yellow, kill a fellow".

I've read up on Quolls, too- very ferocious looking lil' bastards. You're right- a Weasel is perfect for them. Actually, his elongated face makes him ideal for a LOT of predators.

PS: YAY OCTOPUS MOLD!! You'll have my next "order" sooner rather than later, GreenMountain :).

Hm, still torn on good reptile colors. The options are basically endless.

Chameleon: Red w/ Blue Armor. Green with yellow stripes. Blue with green stripes.

Iguana: Those scales just beg for individual detail. A proper Green one, true to nature, would look good. He'd also work in Blue w/ Grey Armor, Slate Grey w/ Blue Armor, or Red w/ Green Armor.

Leapin' Lizard: This one is trickier, because he could easily look really garish with the big frill. The neutral colors used in the official line might work best for him. Grey w/ Brown or Green Armor might work.

Some other good color contrasts: Dark Blue/Silver, Purple/Silver, Black/Silver, Orange/Black (a little Halloweeny, though), White/Black, White/Blue (either dark or light). Green/Red.

Leaping lizard. It is your duty to make that frill pop.

Also, imagine a Pink Fairy Armadillo. This is an actual thing!

Most Frilled Lizard frills aren't quite so colorful- the best ones typically have some red in them:

Hm, those are very nice. I have a feeling that the Beasts often look better with flat, cartoonish colors most of the time, but some of the "real life" customs are amazing. That Leaping Lizard in particular is very cool, and looks totally like a real one would.

Sweet! I just found a trio of Beasts at the local Antique Mall- ten bucks each for ones without rubs! And best of all, they're actually in shoddy paint condition! This means I can modify them guilt-free!

It's the Owl, Chameleon and Cuttlefish.

So I need to think of color schemes for them. Since I'm getting a Red Chameleon from Green Mountain, I can leave my "red" ideas for him, but this one could be green. Or even blue!

The Owl I'm thinking "Snowy Owl". Has anyone ever painted one like that?

Cuttlefish could be "Black Panther Colors", which might be neat. Or use a mottled finish. Cuttlefish can be any color in nature, so the possibilities are literally limitless.

There's also something I've been thinking of- a Master Color Companion List. Writing down all the colors of "skin", and picking the armor colors that go best with them, based off of what Beasts look good (including some of Green Mountain's paint-jobs).

White Beasts: Pale blue (GM Snow Leopard), Medium blue (GM Arctic Fox), Blue/Green (GM's Coral Reefers), Black, Dark Grey (Cuttlefish), Light Grey (GM Yeti), Pink (Carp), Dark Purple (Bovine)

Black Beasts: Green/Blue (Panther), Red (Gorilla), Orange (Alt. Gorilla, Tortoise), Gold, Silver.

Light Blue Beasts: Dark Blue (Horse), Red (GM Seahorse), Blue/Green (GM's Coral Reefers, again).

Red Beasts: Light Green/Blue (Anteater), Dark Brown/Black (GM Piranha).

Light Purple Beasts: Dark Purple (Mole), Black (Alt. Mole).

Light Brown Beasts: Pink (Armadillo), Light Blue (Seahorse), Dark Blue (Lizard), Red (Antelope).

Dark Brown Beasts: Rich Purple (Bison), Pale Pink (Pangolin), Yellow (Musk Ox).

Yellow Beasts: Dark Blue (Chameleon), Orange (Iguana).

Grey Beasts: Yellow (Rhino, LB Mouse, Porcupine).

Orange Beasts: Dark Blue (Weasel).

Pink Beasts: Red (Pig).

Some color schemes are relatively unaccounted for. There are no Dark Blue, Dark Purple or Dark Grey Beasts, for example. Plus all the fantastical color schemes like Gold, Silver, Brass, Pearlescent, Glitter, Clear & other Metallics.

Dark Purple generally goes well with pink or gold (where it's the color of royalty). Pearl colors go well with blues & greens. Grey & Black are a good (if dark) mix.

Yeah, that is pretty cool. I wonder what he'd look like with the actual Owl body just painted white. I guess I'll find out once I paint him :). I might change the blue coloring of his armor, too.

!!! Wow! I had no idea that page existed! There's some terrific stuff in there! Thanks so much- your page has already done wonders for me just in getting ideas, but seeing an Orca Laser Beast is pretty awesome, too :).

Here's a great batch I just got from Green Mountain! Help me figure out what armor colors would look best on them :).

They are:

White Bison (GM has a REALLY cool dark grey armored White Bison, so I might go with that)

White Rhino

Off-White Boar

Grey Leaping Lizard

Black Jaguar

Black Weasel (I'ma make him a "Spotted Skunk". Should the armor also be black?)

Black Iguana

Black Bison (I was thinking the blue/green or the Panther & Crow's armor, but the same purple as the regular Bison might look cool, too!)

Red Chameleon

Pink Armadillo

Light Blue Samu/Parrot
