That's very cool. Thundercats following would be just damn awesome too.....

Yeah, Mega Bloks has been killing it since being bought out by Mattel.
Sometimes "under new management" does make a difference.
And I'm not just talking about releasing Mattel properties. Their designs have changed, their release structure has improved drastically, and overall the properties are more centered on the characters rather than the bloks. It's insane how quickly they are cycling new sets now. Halo and Call of Duty are fully aimed at the adult collector, and the new properties of Spongebob and Minions are massively popular due, in part, to the changes that I have mentioned. Also, Monster High Mega Bloks will be in stores any day now.
The Mega Bloks Castle Grayskull is the first brick-build structure from any company with vertical accent tiles. It also seems to be taking a design-nod from the McFarlane brick-building system where the idea is to not leave any pegs showing. Nice.

Not bad, I was expecting a terribly blocky thing like Lego or MiniMate.
I'd prefer the original cat to the 2000 anime version, but that's fine. Figure 2-packs for around $5 would be cool. I have a bunch of little warrior Megablocks from foil bags, and they are actually pretty neat.

I guess all the MOTU toy action is gearing up for the movie.
Is that still another Channing Tatum project?
Speaking of Mega Bloks and movies -- where the heck are those Terminator Genisys toys they showed off at Toyfair in February?
Probably another aspect of being owned by Mattel -- getting your toyline scrapped if it suddenly doesn't seem profitable.
Maybe I am wrong, but they should certainly be in stores by now.

The Terminator stuff is still coming, at least according to Mega's own online store, with a decent assortment. The weirdest one being a T-1000 Ahnold wearing a trenchcoat... all in silver. Silly!
The He-Man and Battle Cat figures aren't brand new molds. They're redecos of World of Warcraft minifigures, which is why Battle Cat looks odd. You can see the sculpting detail of the original cat's armor among the painted green "fur". I don't think they or the Castle Grayskull are necessarily actual retail products but proofs of concept and to show off what could be possible with the brand.

I knew I recognized that from somewhere! Barrens Chase Warlock Elf mount for sure
I won't be buying any of these but still good to see old properties active on shelves at any rate I guess.

What is behind this recent explosion of MOTU goodness? Practically nothing for 30 years, then - boom - MOTU M.U.S.C.L.E. and Mega Bloks. Is it just that everyone who watched the cartoons first time around now has a bundle of disposable income?

No, because those people have had disposable income for some time now. The difference seems to be a notable lack of Scott Neitlich working for Mattel. This explosion of licensing and branching out in more diverse ways only really occurred beyond Mattel's main lines after he left the company. I mean, I haven't wanted to purchase a MOTUC figure since 2010, but that Filmation Skeletor is drawing me, a guy with zero MOTU nostalgia mind you, toward a future purchase.

Anniversary year, upcoming film, etc. Mattel's financial division will be floating when the film drops.
