What series did these cute robot keshis come from?

Best Answer BadLarry , 15 March 2020 - 03:17 PM

The short answer is that it is Mic Sounders from Gaogaigar. The color scheme complicates it a little, but you can read about it here:

I've been waiting for ages for these two to come to me, and FINALLY they came in, just in time for spring break!  I mainly bought these since they genuinely looked adorable for me, I'm a HUGE SUCKER for robots and just characters in general that have the 'eyes for a face' design trope. Add in the fact that they also have chunky stylized proportions and throwing up a peace sign, I knew I had to get my hands on them!

The eBay listing were I got these two from was made by a 'junk' seller, one of those international eBay sellers who set up thousands of auctions for random anime merchandise, CDs, mangas, etc. The seller unfortunately didn't properly name what series these could come from, they just threw in 'Macross' as a buzzword for people to see it. (the entire listing name was "#G9766 Japan Anime Figure Macross", not much help) I did try anyways to look up if there were any Macross keshi set that had this design, but unfortunately I didn't see a single one. I also tried looking up other mecha anime such as Gundam, Getter Robo, Patlabor, etc to see if they had keshi sets or at least a mech or robot character that looked similar to the figures. I kept coming up empty handed....

Here's all of the pics I took of the duo, one is fully painted in the character's color pallet (hopefully) and the other is in a translucent light green!

Front and back pics:

Dissembled pics, they have three parts in total (head, body, back accessory):

As you can see, there is only one manufacturing stamp on both figs on their back accessory, it's upside down and says '© S CHINA'. There is nothing else printed or molded on the bottom of these two.

Any help identifying these is greatly appreciated!!! Even if they don't get identified, I'm fine with it since they're still pretty neat and I'm glad to add them to my small yet growing keshi collection!  ^_^

THANK YOU!!! Huh, considering that this figure is supposed to be the 1-12th Mic Force units, there could be a color variant of Mic Sounders the 13th? Since they are all identical in terms of physical model design! I also tried looking up GaoGaiGar keshi figs, and I can only find figures for the main/humanoid characters with accompanying info cards, so I now wonder where these Mic Unit keshis came from

I don't think it would be a stretch to think that there may be a version of your figure in the 13th color scheme. I don't know how you'd find it though. I did a little bit of digging for search terms like Mic Sounders/Gaogaigar keshi, gachapon/gashapon and minifigures and not much came up.

I'm no authority, but the figure looks more rigid than what is usually called "keshi", that's why I tried looking for gachapon. I don't know if there are any other widely agreed-upon terms for that type of hard plastic minifigure that might help you find more.

Thank you

I also tried looking up some gashapon sets with no real luck either, but I'm pretty sure what I have is keshi? The painted one feels pretty firm and solid, but the translucent green one feels very soft and bendy! I compared it to some of my other older solid-color keshi figures and it feels very similar, it's even a bit more sticky than them!  Hopefully a hardcore GaoGaiGar collector stumbles across this post in the future and can maybe say where it's from?  :unknw:

As Mic Sounders the 13th is a major character in the series and beloved, there probably is a version in his color scheme.
