This and that - mostly that!

Posted 17 March 2014 - 01:00 PM

I love reading the AOTW (a$$hole of the week) blog updates by Chad over at the University of MUSCLE. For those who aren't familiar, he previews MUSCLE related eBay listings that may include sellers who ask exorbitant prices for basic figures; describe items in ridiculous ways; take awful listing pictures etc, etc.

I'm now at the point where during my daily MIMP searches I seem to be noticing more and more MIMP related listings that fit into these AOTW categories. One that popped up recently really got my attention:

Attached File  image.jpg   133.48K   110 downloads

At first glance I thought ok, there's been an error with the p&p price. The sticker book seems like a cool little MIMP item that might end with a low bid, so I contacted the seller asking if he intended to amend the p&p error so that I could drop a bid of a couple of £ on it. He then messages me back saying that he intended to list the book for a £50 BIN, but it wouldn't let him so he had to set the p&p price to £50. WTF!

Anybody out there found other ridiculous MIMP listings of late? This guy certainly gets my AOTW vote

Thanks for sharing that, as far as "wouldn't let him list at that price", I read that as "This way I can cheat eBay's final value fee and trick bidders into thinking they're getting a good price". According to his feedback, seller has done this repeatedly; he also has more revised feedback messages than I've ever seen in one place on eBay.

The Beastformers/Laser Beasts community could definitely benefit from this type of series, I've seen some pretty absurd prices and descriptions there.

Maybe if I get a blog up and going again, and Chad doesn't mind me ripping off the concept, I'll make that happen. Call it "Beastly Butthole of the Hour" or something

Except eBay now charges final value fees on postage, so this is literally about saving 20 pence to list as BIN.

That's smart, didn't realize they'd done that.

There are currently two regular purple Series 1 MIMP, a Tengu and a Ghost, on eBay. I don't know who's the bigger asshole: the seller who listed them for $8.99 apiece, or the bidder(s) on them!

Edit: this seller has several more Series 1 MIMP in regular colors--same start bid, with a Buy It Now of $11.99 each!

Current collecting goal: obtain all 148 Monster In My Pocket Series 1 figures in regular colors (71.62% there)

So many toys, so little money!

Here's another one:

Vague title, hastily written description and the cheek to call £10 a 'low starting price' when the volcano is quite badly cracked and dented. Classic.

As much as those Volcanoes go for they might as well be made of platinum.

Unfortunately they will probably end up getting more than that for it, despite the condition!

I really want a volcano for displaying my neons, but not at the prices they tend to go for. I had one as a kid, but sadly it got cracked and went out with the trash somewhere along the way.

Am I the only one who thinks the S4 MIMPs are hideous? Sculpt quality went down, and the multi-colored aspect kills it for me

But...but the Skeleton is somewhat hard to find. That's worth $50 based on my scale of absolutely nothing (The same scale most Ebay sellers use).

I like some of them but the monocolors were better in sculpt and looks. The only painted series I liked was Series 6.

The description on this one is hilariously awful. It's sad that eBay pushes their eBay Mobile app so much as most people end up posting their auctions like a text message. Forget about punctuation, and there's PLENTY OF RANDOM CAPS for emphasis.

I contacted this seller with some advice and ballpark figures; let's see how that plays out ;)

As if Ebay sellers will listen to advice or logic. The force isn't strong enough to breach that gap lol

Haha, my favorite is how he says "NOTE !!!! NOT FOR FUSSY BUYERS". God forbid someone be fussy about a lot of 9 common & semi-common MIMP with a $60 price tag.

I don't know why I bothered (or continue to bother) but I've also contacted a couple of sellers of late offering a little advice. One guy, selling a magenta Ganesha as a 'prototype figure' thanked me for my advice and said he'd amend listing - needless to say he didn't amend it. Another guy, who I believe posted here first, listed a full NP set for £700+ and a magenta set for £150+. I contacted them saying if they really wanted to sell then they should consider amending their prices etc etc. I received no reply, not even a f**k off! The listings didn't sell, then he relisted again for similar crazy prices.

I saw those. He might get half of that for them. I tried a few times telling people when they had screwed up auctions, but only once did they actually fix it. And never a price reduction

For that NP set I was thinking he'd probably be better off selling the rares/uncommons individually and then the rest of them as a group or groups, but even then I doubt he'd be satisfied with what he'd get for them.

I need 5 NP figures for a complete set so I asked if he definitely wanted to sell as a set or would consider breaking it up, but never got a response.
